Site Manager Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a site manager in Alaska?
Most site managers in Alaska enter the role through a combination of a construction-related degree and field experience, then advance by obtaining an Alaska contractor license through the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business, and Professional Licensing. The division oversees the required exams and endorsements for general and specialty contractor work. Candidates who hold a NASCLA commercial contractor certificate can often convert it to an Alaska license, which shortens the path considerably for those already licensed in another state.
Which companies hire site managers in Alaska?
Companies currently hiring site managers in Alaska include Amazon, Donlin Gold, and North Wind, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's oil and gas sector, large federal construction contractors, and municipal infrastructure programs generate the most consistent demand for experienced site managers year-round.
Which Alaska cities have the most site manager jobs?
Anchorage, Soldotna, and Fairbanks hold the most site manager openings in Alaska. Anchorage dominates because it is the state's commercial and government contracting hub, while Fairbanks benefits from military installation projects at Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base, and the Kenai Peninsula draws steady work from Cook Inlet oil and gas operations.
Are there remote site manager jobs in Alaska?
Yes, but they're rare. Site managers are fundamentally on-site roles, so full remote work is uncommon. About 33% of site manager openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and most of those involve pre-construction planning, estimating, or program oversight rather than active field supervision.
How can I get hired as a site manager in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an assistant superintendent or project coordinator with a large Alaska general contractor such as Watterson Construction or Lynden Construction, both of which regularly bring on candidates transitioning from trades backgrounds or recent construction management graduates. A degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage's construction management program and an OSHA 30 certification give candidates a concrete edge. Field roles in estimating, scheduling, or quality control are the most common lateral moves that lead directly to site manager responsibilities.
Where can I find and apply to site manager jobs in Alaska?
You can find and apply to site manager jobs in Alaska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alaska openings updated regularly. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
