Social Worker Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a social worker in Utah?
To work as a social worker in Utah you must obtain licensure through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, which issues several tiers: the Certified Social Worker (CSW) for those with a bachelor's degree, and the Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) for those with a master's degree plus supervised clinical hours and a passing score on the ASWB exam. Most clinical roles in hospitals, behavioral health agencies, and child welfare require at least an MSW and active LCSW or LSAC licensure before you can practice independently.
Which companies hire social workers in Utah?
Companies currently hiring social workers in Utah include Intermountain Health, LifeStance Health, and University of Utah, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Utah's healthcare systems, state agencies, and nonprofit behavioral health organizations are the most consistent sources of openings across the state.
Which Utah cities have the most social worker jobs?
Salt Lake City, Murray, and Saint George have the most social worker openings in Utah. Salt Lake City dominates because it is home to the state's largest hospital systems, state government agencies, and regional nonprofit headquarters, while Provo and Ogden benefit from their own growing healthcare networks, university-affiliated programs, and county human services departments that generate steady demand.
Are there remote social worker jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. Social work is largely a face-to-face profession involving home visits, in-person assessments, and direct client contact, which limits fully remote roles. About 86% of social worker openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be concentrated in care coordination, utilization review, or telephonic case management rather than direct clinical or field work.
How can I get hired as a social worker in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a case aide, social service assistant, or family support specialist role with the Utah Division of Child and Family Services or a county human services office, which regularly bring on candidates with a bachelor's degree who are still working toward licensure. Intermountain Health and Valley Behavioral Health both offer new-graduate rotations and supervised practicum placements that count toward LCSW hours. A CSW license from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing and completed field practicum documentation give entry-level candidates a measurable edge over unlicensed applicants.
Where can I find and apply to social worker jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to social worker jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your license level and specialty, and apply directly to the employers that fit what you're looking for.
