Software Development Manager Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software development manager in Missouri?
Missouri does not require a state-issued license to work as a software development manager. The typical path starts with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, several years of hands-on software engineering work, and a move into a team lead or senior engineer role. Large Missouri employers in Kansas City and St. Louis generally promote from within, so performing well in a contributor role at firms with sizable engineering organizations is the most reliable local route into management.
Which companies hire software development managers in Missouri?
Missouri software development manager roles are posted by Esri, CVS Health, and Mastercard and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's mix of health IT, financial services, and defense technology firms means openings appear across both commercial software product companies and large enterprise IT departments.
Which Missouri cities have the most software development manager jobs?
St. Louis, Jefferson City, and O'Fallon account for the most software development manager openings in Missouri. Kansas City leads because of its dense cluster of fintech, healthcare IT, and logistics technology employers, while St. Louis draws significant volume from defense contractors, financial services firms, and regional health systems that maintain large engineering departments there.
Are there remote software development manager jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of software development manager openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how naturally the role adapts to distributed team management tools and async communication. The portions of the role most likely to remain fully remote are strategic planning, code review oversight, and cross-team coordination, while on-site expectations tend to apply to roles with large in-office engineering teams.
How can I get hired as a software development manager in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is earning a formal team lead title before applying to manager roles. Missouri employers such as Cerner (Oracle Health) and World Wide Technology run structured engineering rotational and associate programs that develop technical contributors into leads over time. Moving laterally from a senior engineer, tech lead, or scrum master role is a common bridge. Building a portfolio of cross-functional project ownership and pursuing a PMP or Certified ScrumMaster credential strengthens a candidacy without prior management titles.
Where can I find and apply to software development manager jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to software development manager jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings in one place. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever fit.
