Sre Engineer Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sre engineer in Missouri?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a sre engineer in Missouri, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical experience. Most Missouri employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field, followed by hands-on engineering experience in software or infrastructure roles. Certifications from cloud providers like AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Google Professional DevOps Engineer carry consistent weight with Missouri hiring managers and can substitute for some experience gaps.
How much do sre engineers make in Missouri?
Sre engineers in Missouri earn a median of about $126,120 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,570 for the lowest 10% to over $169,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sre engineers in Missouri?
Employers hiring sre engineers in Missouri right now include Mastercard, Refinitiv US, and Esri, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's concentration of financial services, health IT, and logistics companies means many of the largest local employers maintain dedicated reliability engineering teams year-round.
Which Missouri cities have the most sre engineer jobs?
O'Fallon, St. Louis, and Missouri account for the most sre engineer openings in Missouri. Kansas City leads because of its dense cluster of fintech firms, insurance companies, and enterprise software operations, while St. Louis draws consistent demand from healthcare IT organizations, defense contractors, and regional bank technology divisions that keep reliability teams staffed regardless of broader market cycles.
Are there remote sre engineer jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of sre engineer openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how deeply cloud-based the work has become. On-call incident response and infrastructure automation are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely, while roles requiring hands-on datacenter work or embedded team collaboration tend to carry an in-office or hybrid requirement.
How can I get hired as a sre engineer in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a software engineering or DevOps associate role, then transitioning internally once you build operational experience. Large Missouri employers like Oracle Health and major Kansas City financial institutions run graduate and early-career engineering programs that accept candidates who demonstrate cloud platform knowledge and scripting ability even without direct SRE titles. Building a portfolio of infrastructure-as-code projects, earning an entry-level cloud certification, and targeting junior DevOps or systems administrator postings are the practical steps that open the door.
Where can I find and apply to sre engineer jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to sre engineer jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location preference, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
