Software Quality Assurance Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software quality assurance in New York?
New York does not require a state-issued license to work in software quality assurance, so the path into the field runs through education and technical credentials. Most employers in New York expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though candidates with associate degrees and strong portfolios also find openings at smaller firms. Earning a certification such as ISTQB Foundation Level strengthens a candidacy considerably, and hands-on experience with automation tools is increasingly treated as a baseline requirement by New York employers.
How much do software quality assurances make in New York?
Software quality assurances in New York earn a median of about $121,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,180 for the lowest 10% to over $182,910 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software quality assurances in New York?
Employers hiring software quality assurances in New York right now include Goldman Sachs, E-Technologies Group, and Citi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of major financial institutions, media companies, and enterprise technology firms means steady, year-round demand for QA professionals across a wide range of industries.
Which New York cities have the most software quality assurance jobs?
New York, Albany, and Brooklyn are the New York cities with the most software quality assurance openings. New York City dominates because of its dense cluster of financial services firms, advertising technology companies, and media organizations that all maintain large engineering teams, while cities like Albany and Buffalo contribute volume through healthcare systems, state government technology projects, and regional insurance and banking employers.
Are there remote software quality assurance jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most technical fields, because software quality assurance work is largely screen-based and integrates naturally into distributed engineering teams. About 26% of software quality assurance openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly New York employers have embraced flexible arrangements for this role. Test automation and performance testing positions tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles involving hardware testing or on-site release coordination are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a software quality assurance in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a junior QA analyst or QA intern role through a large New York employer's associate or early-career program, with IBM, JPMorgan Chase, and Publicis Sapient among the New York-based organizations that run structured programs for candidates without prior professional experience. Building a portfolio of automated test scripts using Selenium or Cypress on personal or open-source projects gives a candidate a concrete edge over other entry-level applicants. Adjacent roles such as technical support specialist or business analyst often serve as lateral moves into QA, and earning an ISTQB Foundation certification before applying signals commitment to the discipline.
Where can I find and apply to software quality assurance jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to software quality assurance jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in New York right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location preference, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
