INTRODUCTION
Provide software engineering tool support for an embedded software engineering team by developing and maintaining embedded software support tools for testing and simulations. Focus on work planning, technical approach, design assurance, and execution excellence. The I&C software team has strong interfaces with electronic hardware design and plant system operations. This role requires technical problem solving, strong software skills and effective communication/collaboration with other teams within the GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) business functions.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Design and execute engineering support tools with common toolsets and User Interface development tools.
- Take direction from a Technical Leader on the Engineering Support to define project work with the proper priority and strategy.
- Create product communications simulators on assigned projects.
- Create automated testing applications with the appropriate hardware.
- Utilize prior experience in Automated Testing and Simulation to provide leading edge technologies tools.
- Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements and work processes.
- Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
- Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
- Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities.
- Effectively manage multiple priorities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
- 5+ years experience in software development and/or test engineering for embedded systems.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Python for tooling, scripting, and test automation.
- 2+ years of experience developing GUI applications using Tkinter (or strong GUI experience with commitment to focus on Tkinter).
- 2+ years of experience working with embedded C code, including building, testing, and debugging.
- 3 years of experience designing and executing unit, integration, system, and HIL tests.
- Experience interfacing with hardware/HIL environments (communication protocols, I/O, simulators, test benches).
- Proven ability to architect and implement robust, maintainable test tools and frameworks.
- Experience working in a structured development environment (requirements, design reviews, traceability, configuration management).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Eligibility Requirement:
- This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
- The required work location is our headquarters in Wilmington, NC.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science discipline.
- Familiarity with safety-critical standards and software verification & validation practices in regulated industries (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, rail, medical devices, automotive).
- Familiarity with testing oriented Python libraries, especially those used for interfacing with hardware or driving test data to embedded targets/HIL rigs (e.g., pySerial, PyModbus, periphery, pandas).
- Experience with Python UI RAD tools, particularly Pygubu.
- Knowledge of common test frameworks (e.g., pytest, unittest, C unit test frameworks).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
- Experience with requirements management and traceability tools.
- Prior experience leading small technical teams or acting as a technical focal point.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear technical documentation and user guides.
- Experience working in a structured development environment (requirements, design reviews, traceability, configuration management).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes
For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
