Special Education Aide Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a special education aide in South Carolina?
Most South Carolina public school districts require special education aides to hold or obtain a paraprofessional authorization, issued or recognized through the South Carolina Department of Education. A high school diploma or GED is the minimum education requirement, though districts in the Midlands and Upstate increasingly prefer candidates with some college coursework in education, child development, or psychology. Completing a paraprofessional certificate program at a technical college such as Midlands Technical College or Greenville Technical College strengthens your application.
Which companies hire special education aides in South Carolina?
South Carolina special education aide roles are posted by Aiken County Public Schools, Horry County Schools, and SCHOOL DISTRICT OF OCONEE COUNTY and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Beyond traditional public school districts, South Carolina also sees hiring from private therapeutic day schools and disability services agencies that support students who require specialized settings outside the general classroom.
Which South Carolina cities have the most special education aide jobs?
Horry County, Aiken, and Ravenel consistently show the highest concentration of special education aide openings in South Carolina. Columbia dominates as the state capital and home to some of the largest school districts, while Greenville's rapid population growth has expanded its school system significantly, and Charleston's mix of public district campuses and private therapeutic programs keeps demand strong across the metro.
Are there remote special education aide jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of special education aide openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that most of the role requires in-person support for students in the classroom, therapy room, or community setting. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely include progress documentation, virtual family consultation, and some behavioral data review roles at the supervisory level.
How can I get hired as a special education aide in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a South Carolina public school district as a general classroom paraprofessional, then transitioning into a dedicated special education support role after demonstrating classroom skills. Richland School District Two and Charleston County School District regularly post entry-level paraprofessional openings that require no prior special education background. Completing a short paraprofessional certificate at Trident Technical College or Midlands Technical College, or volunteering through a district's inclusion program, gives candidates a concrete edge.
