Preschool Director Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a preschool director in South Carolina?
You become a preschool director in South Carolina by meeting the director qualifications set by the South Carolina Department of Social Services, which licenses childcare centers in the state. DSS requires directors to hold at minimum a high school diploma plus a nationally recognized child development credential, though most centers prefer a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. Completing the South Carolina Child Care Training System coursework and holding a Child Development Associate credential strengthens your application considerably.
Which companies hire preschool directors in South Carolina?
Employers hiring preschool directors in South Carolina right now include PGIC, Learning Care, and Taylors First Baptist Church, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. South Carolina's network of Head Start grantees and faith-based childcare centers also represent a consistent and significant share of director openings across the state.
Which South Carolina cities have the most preschool director jobs?
Taylors, Florence, and Hartsville have the most preschool director openings in South Carolina. Columbia leads because of its concentration of state agency-affiliated programs and the University of South Carolina's surrounding childcare infrastructure, while Greenville's rapid population growth has driven expansion of both corporate childcare chains and independent centers, and Charleston's tourism and professional workforce create steady demand for licensed early childhood programs.
Are there remote preschool director jobs in South Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. About 25% of preschool director openings tied to South Carolina are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that the role is fundamentally hands-on and requires a licensed physical facility. The portions of the role most likely to be handled remotely include administrative functions such as enrollment management, staff scheduling, and compliance documentation.
How can I get hired as a preschool director in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a lead teacher or assistant director at a South Carolina DSS-licensed center and building toward the director qualification from within. Employers like Bright Horizons and KinderCare locations in Greenville and Columbia regularly promote internally, and Head Start programs across the state often offer structured leadership development for classroom staff. Earning a Child Development Associate credential through the South Carolina Child Care Training System signals readiness for an administrative step-up and distinguishes candidates who have not yet held a director title.
Where can I find and apply to preschool director jobs in South Carolina?
You can find and apply to preschool director jobs in South Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
