• Accomplish functional restoration of local and general deficits due to injury through personalized therapeutic plans.
• Administer treatment and provide follow-up care as required for the tactical athlete.
• Observes and evaluates the tactical athlete’s function and interprets range of motion as well as strength, power and endurance of muscles to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal disorders.
• Documents all care provided in the tactical athlete’s automated health record and files.
• Orders routine labs as needed per SMART clinic standing orders and DHA guidelines.
• Provides emergency first aid, evaluation and treatment of injuries, and aid in preliminary diagnosis to include recognition of severity of the injury,
• Provides the tactical athlete with educational tools to increase ergonomic understanding musculoskeletal (MSK) injury prevention, and social conditioning.
• Identifies, develops and maintains performance improvement (PI) initiatives and activities for the local clinic.

• This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR} and First Aid.

Basic Requirement for Athletic Trainer:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; 1) Performing comprehensive neurological, musculoskeletal (MSK), and mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) evaluations; 2) ability to analyze data to improve/develop treatments to injury prevention; 3) creating customized rehabilitation programs for both chronic and acute injuries; 4) Developing/presenting trainings pertaining to sports medicine and injury prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Master of Science such as Athletic Training

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
