Nursing Instructor Jobs in South Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nursing instructor in South Carolina?
You must hold an active registered nurse license issued or recognized by the South Carolina Board of Nursing, along with a graduate degree in nursing. Most academic positions require at least a Master of Science in Nursing, while community college and vocational programs may accept applicants with a bachelor's degree plus substantial clinical experience. Demonstrating clinical teaching, precepting, or simulation lab competency strengthens any application significantly.
How much do nursing instructors make in South Carolina?
Nursing instructors in South Carolina earn a median of about $79,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,510 for the lowest 10% to over $128,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nursing instructors in South Carolina?
South Carolina nursing instructor roles are posted by State of South Carolina, Greenville Technical College, and Charleston Southern University and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Carolina's large technical college network and its academic medical centers together generate the broadest and most consistent volume of openings across the state.
Which South Carolina cities have the most nursing instructor jobs?
Greenville, Aiken County, and Beaufort County are the South Carolina cities with the most nursing instructor openings. Columbia leads because it is home to the University of South Carolina and a dense cluster of Midlands Technical College campuses, while Greenville and Charleston benefit from major health systems and established nursing schools tied to institutions like Furman University and the Medical University of South Carolina.
How can I get hired as a nursing instructor in South Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a part-time or adjunct clinical instructor position, which requires licensure but typically accepts applicants with strong bedside experience rather than prior teaching credentials. South Carolina's technical colleges, particularly Midlands Technical and Trident Technical, regularly hire clinical adjuncts drawn from bedside RNs, charge nurses, and nurse educators working within hospital systems like Prisma Health. Building a simulation or skills-lab portfolio and completing a nurse educator certificate strengthens your candidacy considerably.
