H-2B Sponsorship Jobs
The H-2B visa allows U.S. employers to hire foreign nationals for temporary non-agricultural jobs when they cannot find sufficient qualified U.S. workers. Common industries include hospitality, landscaping, construction, and seasonal resorts. The visa is capped at 66,000 per fiscal year, split evenly between the two halves of the year, though Congress and DHS have periodically authorized supplemental allocations.

How to Get H-2B Sponsorship
Target seasonal industries with established H-2B programs
Hospitality, landscaping, amusement parks, ski resorts, and seafood processing hire H-2B workers every year. These industries return to the same visa pipeline seasonally, making them far more reliable sponsorship targets than one-off employers.
Apply months before the season starts
H-2B petitions require DOL certification before USCIS filing, and the cap fills fast. Employers typically begin the process four to five months before their start date. Reaching out early signals you understand the timeline.
Understand the annual cap and what it means for you
H-2B has a 66,000 annual cap split between two half-year periods. Returning workers may be exempt. Ask employers whether they've secured cap-exempt status or plan to file in the first allocation window.
Focus on employers who sponsor H-2B every year
Repeat sponsorship is the strongest signal an employer knows the process. Look for resorts, golf courses, and landscaping companies that advertise seasonal roles with relocation support. Returning annually is common in this visa category.
Your home country eligibility matters
H-2B is only available to nationals of countries on USCIS's annually updated eligible countries list. Confirm your country is listed before pursuing employers, since sponsorship is legally unavailable to nationals of unlisted countries.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively hiring H-2B workers
Most H-2B roles aren't labeled as visa-sponsored in standard job searches. Migrate Mate filters for employers actively sponsoring H-2B positions, so you're not guessing which seasonal companies are willing to go through the process.

What jobs qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B covers temporary or seasonal non-agricultural jobs, including hotel and resort staff, groundskeepers, landscapers, construction workers, amusement park employees, and housekeeping staff. The employer must demonstrate a one-time, seasonal, peak-load, or intermittent need that is temporary in nature. Professional roles requiring a degree generally fall under H-1B rather than H-2B.
How does the H-2B cap work?
The annual cap is 66,000 visas, with 33,000 available for the first half of the fiscal year and 33,000 for the second half. Returning H-2B workers from prior years may be exempt from the cap under certain conditions. When demand exceeds the cap, USCIS uses a lottery to select petitions. Early filing is strongly recommended, especially for peak summer season employers.
How long does an H-2B visa last?
An H-2B visa is issued for the duration of the specific job need, up to one year at a time, and can be extended in one-year increments to a maximum of three years. After reaching the three-year limit, workers must leave the U.S. for at least three months before being eligible for a new H-2B period. The visa is tied to the sponsoring employer and job.
Which countries are eligible for H-2B visas?
Workers must be nationals of countries that DHS has designated as eligible for H-2B participation, based on factors like overstay rates and national security considerations. The list is reviewed and updated annually. Nationals of countries not on the designated list may still be approved on a case-by-case basis if the employer demonstrates a compelling need.
How to find H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by H-2B sponsorship so you can see which employers are actively hiring. Focus on seasonal employers in hospitality, landscaping, and resorts that file H-2B petitions regularly. Many H-2B sponsors recruit returning workers each year, so once you have completed a placement, maintaining that relationship significantly improves your chances of future sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for h-2b sponsorship jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
