Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Cybersecurity Manager
Verify your CIP code before applying
Cross-reference your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Cybersecurity Manager roles typically require computer science or information assurance credentials, but a mismatched CIP code disqualifies you from the 24-month extension.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask the recruiter for the company's E-Verify employer ID or look it up through the E-Verify employer search tool. An employer that isn't enrolled cannot legally participate in STEM OPT, regardless of how willing they are to hire you.
Build your I-983 training plan around security leadership
Document specific learning objectives tied to Cybersecurity Manager duties: risk frameworks, incident response oversight, team supervision, and compliance audits. Vague training plans get rejected by your DSO, so align each goal to the role's technical and managerial scope.
Target employers with active PERM and LCA history
Cybersecurity Manager is a specialty occupation with strong H-1B sponsorship patterns. Use Migrate Mate to filter companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for security management roles, which signals both E-Verify enrollment and a track record of supporting international hires through their full authorization window.
Time your STEM OPT application around your cap-gap window
If your employer files an H-1B petition before your initial OPT expires, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization through September 30. Coordinate your STEM OPT end date with your DSO and track USCIS receipt notice timelines so there's no gap in your employment eligibility.
Use O*NET to frame your specialty occupation case
Pull the Cybersecurity Manager occupation profile from O*NET to confirm the role's Job Zone and required knowledge areas. This data supports your employer's LCA filing and gives you concrete language to reference when discussing how your STEM degree directly relates to the position's requirements.

Find Cybersecurity Manager JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Cybersecurity Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your degree is in an eligible STEM field such as computer science, information security, or cybersecurity and carries an approved CIP code on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. The role itself must also constitute a qualifying paid position with a single E-Verify-enrolled employer. Confirm your CIP code with your DSO before assuming you're eligible.
How do I find Cybersecurity Manager jobs at E-Verify employers?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with verified E-Verify enrollment and active LCA filing history, so you're not wasting applications on companies that can't legally participate in STEM OPT. You can search specifically for Cybersecurity Manager openings and filter by sponsorship track record, saving significant time in your job search.
What should my I-983 training plan include for a Cybersecurity Manager role?
Your I-983 must outline specific practical training goals tied to the Cybersecurity Manager position: for example, developing incident response procedures, managing security audits, overseeing vulnerability assessments, and learning regulatory compliance frameworks like NIST or ISO 27001. Generic descriptions aren't sufficient. Your DSO and employer both sign the plan, and USCIS may request it during an RFE or site visit.
What happens to my STEM OPT if my employer loses E-Verify enrollment?
If your employer's E-Verify participation is terminated or they fail to re-enroll, your STEM OPT authorization becomes invalid even if your EAD has remaining time. USCIS requires E-Verify enrollment to remain active throughout your entire training period. Your DSO must be notified within five business days of any employer change, including loss of E-Verify status.
Can cap-gap protection cover me as a Cybersecurity Manager waiting for H-1B approval?
Yes. If your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before your OPT EAD expires and USCIS receives it by April 1, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that year. If USCIS approves the petition, your H-1B status begins October 1. Check your I-94 and EAD expiration dates carefully and confirm receipt with USCIS before your OPT end date.
