Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Python Developer
Verify your degree qualifies before applying
Cross-check your degree's CIP code against the STEM Designated Degree Program List published by USCIS. Computer science, information systems, and applied mathematics degrees typically qualify, but your specific program title must match an approved code.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask hiring managers directly whether their company is enrolled in E-Verify before signing. You can also verify enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool, which is publicly accessible without an account.
Target Python roles tied to your STEM discipline
Python Developer positions in data engineering, scientific computing, or backend infrastructure align more cleanly with STEM OPT than general web development. Roles connected to your degree field reduce DSO scrutiny when your training plan is reviewed.
File your I-983 training plan before your OPT end date
Your employer must sign the I-983 before your initial OPT expires and your STEM extension begins. Build in time for back-and-forth on the learning objectives section, since managers unfamiliar with USCIS requirements often need multiple revisions.
Search Migrate Mate to find Python roles at E-Verify employers
Migrate Mate filters Python Developer listings to employers with confirmed E-Verify enrollment and STEM OPT hiring history, saving you from screening dozens of postings that can't legally hire you under the extension.

Find Python Developer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Python Developer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Python Developer positions generally qualify if the role is rooted in a STEM discipline such as software engineering, data science, or computer science, and your degree carries an approved STEM CIP code. The position must provide practical training directly related to your degree field. Your DSO reviews the I-983 training plan to confirm the connection between the role and your academic background.
Which STEM degrees make Python Developer jobs eligible for the 24-month extension?
Degrees in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, applied mathematics, and statistics are common qualifying programs. The degree title alone isn't enough; the CIP code assigned to your program must appear on the USCIS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Check with your DSO to confirm your specific program code before your initial OPT period ends.
How do I know if a Python Developer employer is enrolled in E-Verify?
E-Verify enrollment is a legal requirement for any employer who hires STEM OPT students. You can search employer enrollment status directly through the E-Verify website using the company's legal name. Asking the recruiter or HR contact to confirm enrollment in writing before you accept an offer is also standard practice and protects you if a dispute arises later.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a Python Developer position?
The I-983 requires your employer to describe the technical skills you'll develop, how those skills connect to your STEM degree, supervision arrangements, and how your performance will be evaluated. For Python Developer roles, this typically covers areas like software architecture, data pipeline design, or API development. Your employer signs the form, and your DSO must approve it before the STEM extension is authorized.
Where can I find Python Developer jobs that accept STEM OPT students?
Migrate Mate lists Python Developer roles filtered for employers enrolled in E-Verify and familiar with STEM OPT hiring requirements. Searching there saves time compared to applying broadly and discovering late in the process that a company can't support your work authorization. Focus on roles where the job description maps clearly to your degree field to strengthen your I-983 training plan.
