Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Solutions Analyst
Verify your degree's CIP code first
Check that your STEM degree maps to a CIP code on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List before applying. Many analytical roles require quantitative or computer science backgrounds, and a mismatch voids your extension eligibility regardless of job fit.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before interviewing
Search the E-Verify employer database directly to confirm enrollment status before you invest time in a company's hiring process. Solutions Analyst roles at consulting firms and mid-size tech shops are common, but not every one participates in E-Verify.
Use O*NET to frame your technical qualifications
Pull the O*NET occupation profile for Solutions Analyst to identify the specific skills and knowledge areas employers expect. Aligning your resume and cover letter to those descriptors strengthens your case that the role meets the STEM OPT specialty occupation standard.
Start your I-983 training plan before day one
Draft your I-983 with your DSO and hiring manager before your start date, not after. Solutions Analyst positions involve structured project cycles, so mapping your learning objectives to those deliverables now prevents the last-minute scrambles that delay your extension approval.
Find STEM OPT employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Solutions Analyst openings by E-Verify enrollment status on Migrate Mate to reach employers already set up to hire STEM OPT students. That pre-screening removes the awkward discovery conversation mid-offer and keeps your timeline intact.
Time your application around cap-gap protection
If your OPT expires while an H-1B visa petition is pending, cap-gap rules let you keep working through September 30. Understand this window when negotiating start dates, so a delayed hiring decision doesn't inadvertently create a gap in your Solutions Analyst employment authorization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Solutions Analyst role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Solutions Analyst positions typically qualify when the role requires applying quantitative, computer science, or engineering principles and your degree's CIP code appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Your DSO will verify the match when endorsing your I-20 for the extension. Roles that involve primarily account management or non-technical client liaison work without an analytical core may not qualify, so confirm the job description aligns before filing.
How do I confirm my employer is enrolled in E-Verify?
Search the E-Verify employer search tool by company name or EIN to confirm active enrollment before accepting an offer. Enrollment status can lapse, so check even if a recruiter tells you the company sponsors visas. USCIS requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify for your STEM OPT extension to be valid, and working for an unenrolled employer puts your status at risk.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a Solutions Analyst position?
Your I-983 must identify specific learning objectives tied to your STEM degree, a supervision structure, and a timeline for evaluating your progress. For a Solutions Analyst, that typically means documenting how your analytical methods, data interpretation, or systems work connects to your field of study. Your employer's direct supervisor must sign the plan, and your DSO must endorse it before your extension begins. USCIS can audit these plans, so vague objectives are a real compliance risk.
What happens to my work authorization if my H-1B is filed but not yet approved when my OPT expires?
Cap-gap protection extends your OPT work authorization automatically through September 30 of the fiscal year when a timely H-1B petition is pending. Your employer must have filed the petition before your OPT end date for cap-gap to apply. You can continue working as a Solutions Analyst during this period, but your employer should be tracking the petition status with USCIS to catch any requests for evidence that could disrupt the timeline.
Where can I find Solutions Analyst jobs where employers are already set up to hire STEM OPT students?
Migrate Mate filters Solutions Analyst openings by E-Verify enrollment status, so you can focus on employers who are already prepared to support your STEM OPT extension rather than spending your first conversation explaining the requirement. This is especially useful when your OPT timeline is tight and you can't afford delays caused by an employer needing to enroll in E-Verify mid-process.
