Mid Level Student Services Counselor Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level student services counselor job?
Position yourself around ownership, not just task completion. Highlight caseloads you managed independently, programs you designed or improved, and outcomes you drove for students. Tailor your resume to show decision-making authority and collaboration with faculty, administrators, or community partners. Certifications in advising frameworks or student development theory strengthen your application, and a portfolio of measurable student success results sets you apart from other candidates.
Which companies hire mid level student services counselors?
Companies hiring mid level student services counselors right now include Boston University, University of Oklahoma, and Johns Hopkins University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes primarily from colleges, universities, community colleges, and K-12 school districts, as well as nonprofit organizations and workforce development agencies that run structured student support programs.
Are there remote mid level student services counselor jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by institution type and role. About 32% of mid level student services counselor openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with online colleges, ed-tech organizations, and large university systems most likely to offer flexible arrangements. In-person roles remain common at traditional campuses where walk-in counseling and on-site student engagement are central to the position.
How do I move up to a mid level student services counselor role?
Growth from entry level to mid level comes from taking on deeper ownership over time. Volunteer to lead a program, manage a specialized caseload, or mentor a newer colleague. Build expertise in a specific population, such as first-generation students, transfer students, or students with disabilities. Document measurable outcomes throughout, because mid level roles are awarded to counselors who demonstrate they can run initiatives, not just contribute to them.
