Mid Level System Safety Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level system safety engineer job?
Position yourself around concrete ownership: highlight safety analyses you led independently, hazard assessments you delivered from start to finish, and any standards compliance work you drove on your own. Tailor your resume to show depth in specific methodologies like FMEA, FTA, or MIL-STD-882, and demonstrate that your work has reduced risk or met certification requirements on a real program.
Which companies hire mid level system safety engineers?
Companies hiring mid level system safety engineers right now include SAIC, Zoox, and Motional, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Defense contractors, aerospace manufacturers, automotive OEMs, and industrial systems firms all hire steadily at this level as programs require engineers who can own safety cases without constant senior oversight.
Are there remote mid level system safety engineer jobs?
Yes, though many roles still require on-site or hybrid presence due to classified programs and hardware-dependent work. About 29% of mid level system safety engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, so filtering by work setting on Migrate Mate is the fastest way to find listings that match your location needs.
How do I move up to a mid level system safety engineer role?
Growth from entry level to mid level comes from taking on progressively independent work: moving from supporting analyses to owning them, getting comfortable with full safety case development, and building fluency in one or two core standards like MIL-STD-882 or DO-178C. Engineers who document measurable outcomes, such as hazards mitigated or certifications supported, make the strongest case for a mid level title.
Which industries hire the most mid level system safety engineers?
Mid Level system safety engineer roles concentrate in Aerospace & Defense, Technology & Software, and Automotive, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because their programs involve complex, regulated systems where independent safety analysis expertise is required throughout the development lifecycle.
