Systems Engineer Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a systems engineer in Louisiana?
Most systems engineer roles in Louisiana require a bachelor's degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Louisiana does not issue a state-specific systems engineer license, but engineers who stamp official documents may need a Professional Engineer license through the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Employers in defense and energy typically value certifications such as INCOSE's Certified Systems Engineering Professional alongside relevant technical experience.
Which companies hire systems engineers in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring systems engineers in Louisiana include SALMON, Rippling, and CVS Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Louisiana's defense industrial base around Baton Rouge and Shreveport, along with its energy sector anchored in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast corridor, keeps demand for systems engineers steady year-round.
Which Louisiana cities have the most systems engineer jobs?
New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Geismar account for the largest share of systems engineer openings in Louisiana. Baton Rouge leads because of its concentration of defense contractors and petrochemical operations, while New Orleans draws roles tied to energy firms and maritime technology, and Shreveport benefits from its proximity to Barksdale Air Force Base and its associated defense supply chain.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely software-focused fields, since systems engineering often involves lab work, hardware integration, and on-site coordination. About 33% of systems engineer openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The tasks most likely to be performed remotely include requirements analysis, documentation, and model development, while integration testing and hardware verification typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a systems engineer in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to associate or junior systems engineer openings at Louisiana's major defense and energy employers, which regularly hire new graduates into rotational or apprenticeship-style programs. Lockheed Martin and L3Harris both run early-career engineering programs that place candidates without deep experience into structured on-the-job training. Lateral moves from roles such as electrical technician, test engineer, or IT systems administrator are also common. Earning INCOSE's Associate Systems Engineering Professional certification and building a project portfolio strengthens any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to systems engineer jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to systems engineer jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background and location preferences.
