Tax Consultant Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax consultant in Arizona?
To work as a tax consultant in Arizona, most employers expect you to hold or be actively pursuing a CPA license issued through the Arizona State Board of Accountancy, which requires a bachelor's degree with qualifying accounting coursework, passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam, and meeting experience requirements. Candidates who are not pursuing CPA licensure often enter the field through an Enrolled Agent credential from the IRS, which demonstrates federal tax competency and is widely respected by Arizona employers across public accounting and corporate tax departments.
How much do tax consultants make in Arizona?
Tax consultants in Arizona earn a median of about $44,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,970 for the lowest 10% to over $104,740 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax consultants in Arizona?
Employers hiring tax consultants in Arizona right now include ADP, Ryan, and McGuire Sponsel, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arizona's dense concentration of regional accounting firms, corporate shared-service centers, and financial institutions in the greater Phoenix area means hiring activity stays consistent throughout the year rather than spiking only during filing season.
Which Arizona cities have the most tax consultant jobs?
Tempe, Gilbert, and Glendale account for the largest share of tax consultant openings in Arizona. Phoenix dominates because of its headquarters-heavy corporate corridor and the regional offices of the Big Four and national mid-market accounting firms, while Scottsdale draws wealth management and high-net-worth advisory work, and Tucson's University of Arizona presence and public-sector institutions sustain a smaller but steady local market.
Are there remote tax consultant jobs in Arizona?
Yes, and more than most professional fields, because tax work is inherently document-driven and desk-based. About 80% of tax consultant openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how readily the role shifts off-site. Tax compliance, return preparation, and research tasks are the functions most consistently offered as fully remote, while client-advisory and business development responsibilities tend to stay hybrid or in-person.
How can I get hired as a tax consultant in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a staff tax associate or tax analyst role at one of the regional or national public accounting firms with Arizona offices, where structured training programs bring on candidates fresh out of school. Firms such as Deloitte and KPMG run campus recruiting pipelines through Arizona State University and the University of Arizona, and many mid-market firms hire seasonal tax preparers who convert to full-time staff. Completing the Enrolled Agent exam before applying signals genuine federal tax knowledge and gives entry-level candidates a concrete credential edge over those with only coursework.
Where can I find and apply to tax consultant jobs in Arizona?
You can find and apply to tax consultant jobs in Arizona on Migrate Mate, which lists current Arizona openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location within the state, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
