Tax Senior Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior in Arizona?
To become a tax senior in Arizona, you need a CPA license issued or recognized by the Arizona State Board of Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting Arizona's education and experience requirements. Most employers also expect a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. From there, several years working in public accounting or corporate tax at the staff or associate level builds the technical depth and client management experience that firms expect at the senior level.
How much do tax seniors make in Arizona?
Tax seniors in Arizona earn a median of about $79,970 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $55,430 for the lowest 10% to over $128,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax seniors in Arizona?
Employers hiring tax seniors in Arizona right now include Jobot, KPMG, and CBIZ, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arizona's concentration of corporate headquarters, regional accounting firm offices, and financial services companies in the Phoenix metro creates consistent demand for experienced tax professionals throughout the year.
Which Arizona cities have the most tax senior jobs?
Phoenix, Tempe, and Scottsdale have the most tax senior openings in Arizona. Phoenix anchors the market as home to major public accounting offices, corporate tax departments, and financial services firms, while Scottsdale and Tempe attract technology companies and regional headquarters that maintain in-house tax teams and rely on nearby accounting firms for overflow work.
Are there remote tax senior jobs in Arizona?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 57% of tax senior openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well tax compliance, review, and planning work translates to a distributed setup. Federal and multi-state corporate tax work, in particular, is frequently offered on a fully remote or hybrid basis by both accounting firms and in-house corporate tax departments.
How can I get hired as a tax senior in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting as a tax associate or staff accountant at one of the large public accounting firms with Phoenix metro offices, such as the Big Four or large regional firms like CliftonLarsonAllen, which run structured new-graduate and early-career programs. Completing the CPA exam sections while working at the staff level accelerates promotion to senior. Candidates coming from adjacent roles in accounting, audit, or financial reporting can move laterally into tax once they build familiarity with compliance software and federal tax return preparation.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior jobs in Arizona?
