Tax Accountant (EA) | Scottsdale, AZ, hybrid | lead the close, own the filings, grow with the team
We are Cactus Blossom Financial, a bookkeeping, CFO, and tax firm with an office in Scottsdale, Arizona. We work with small and big growing businesses, a lot of them project based, construction and trades among them.
This is a hybrid seat and it is local. You live in Arizona and you are in our Scottsdale office at least two days a week. The other days are yours to work from home.
Most of our clients arrive nervous about their numbers. Some of them are embarrassed. Our whole reputation rests on meeting people there without judgment and walking them out to clarity. That is the job as much as the tax return is.
We are hiring a Tax Accountant who owns tax filing end to end, reviews the financials before they reach a client, and leads our bookkeeping team. This seat reports directly to the two owners on an eight-person team, and it carries real authority. When you say the books are ready, we back that in front of the client.
What you will own
- Tax filing. Individual, sole prop, SMLLC, S-Corp, partnership, and multi-entity returns, start to finish.
- Sales and TPT filings, on the calendar and on time, every period.
- Month-end close. You review what the bookkeeping team produces, you assess whether the financial reports are actually accurate, and you decide when a file is ready.
- Leadership of the bookkeeping team. You set the standard, you train against it, and you give the feedback that raises it.
- Client conversations. You explain what the numbers mean to an owner making a decision on them, in plain language, without making them feel small.
- The systems behind all of it. You maintain the SOPs that keep close and filing season repeatable when volume doubles.
- Our AI systems. You work alongside them and review what they produce before any of it reaches a client.
What we need from you
- Enrolled Agent, active and current. Required. This is the floor. A CPA is welcome and we will not turn one away, and the seat is built and priced as an EA seat.
- You live in Arizona, within commuting distance of Scottsdale, and you are in the office at least two days a week. This one is not negotiable and we will not relocate the seat.
- Hands-on QuickBooks Online. Files you personally carried, not exposure to the software.
- Gusto or QBO payroll experience, including 940 and 941 preparation and filing. Required, not preferred. You have personally prepared and filed them.
- You have run a month-end close yourself, start to finish, and you have caught what was wrong in someone else's work before it reached a client.
- Excellent written and spoken English, because you will write and speak to clients in our name.
- You tell people early. When something is going to be late or wrong, we hear it from you first, while it is still fixable.
- You hold the number. A client wanting a better answer does not change what the return says, and you can say that warmly.
- You bring the recommendation. When you bring us a problem, you bring the option you would pick and why.
- Detail is where you live. In this work, the detail is the product.
Not a fit if: you live outside Arizona, you want a fully remote seat, you want part time hours, you want to run your own client book alongside this, you would rather not talk to clients, you want to stay out of team leadership, or you need someone to check your work before it goes out.
Bonus points, and rare enough that we will notice
- WIP reports and percentage of completion.
- Construction accounting and job costing.
- QuickBooks Online Projects.
- Experience training or leading other accountants or bookkeepers.
- A track record of staying somewhere and getting good at it.
Our core values, which we hire, develop, and review against
- Mistakes are Learning Opportunities. You say what went wrong before we find it, and the fix is the point, not the blame.
- Embrace Self-Responsibility. Your files are yours. Nobody here chases you.
- We Practice Grit. Filing season is hard on purpose. You stay calm and you stay standing.
- We Lead With Integrity. The number is the number, with every client, every time.
- We Grow Together. You are generous with what you know, and the team is better because you are on it.
We run on EOS, and core values are a standing item on our weekly agenda. They are how people here get reviewed, not a poster on a wall.
Compensation and how we work
- Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 per year, based on experience.
- Quarterly performance bonuses, against targets set with you at the start of each quarter.
- PTO, plus paid sick days.
- Hours: full time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday on Arizona time.
- Hybrid. Two days a week minimum in the Scottsdale office, the rest from home.
- Arizona residency required. We are not hiring this seat out of state.
- Team: eight people. You sit one seat from both owners and you lead the bookkeeping team.
- Reviewed at 90 days, with the expectations written down on your first day.

Tax Accountant Jobs in Arizona: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax accountant in Arizona?
You become a tax accountant in Arizona by earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and, for most professional roles, obtaining a CPA license through the Arizona State Board of Accountancy. Licensure requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and completing the experience requirement supervised by a licensed CPA. Candidates who do not yet hold a CPA can work as unlicensed staff accountants, but the CPA credential is expected for advancement in most Arizona public accounting firms and corporate tax departments.
How much do tax accountants make in Arizona?
Tax accountants in Arizona earn a median of about $44,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $36,970 for the lowest 10% to over $104,740 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax accountants in Arizona?
Employers hiring tax accountants in Arizona right now include Jobot, Oscar Health, and Avnet, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Arizona's concentration of mining corporations, real estate investment trusts, and regional headquarters for national retailers creates steady corporate tax demand alongside the large public accounting firms operating throughout the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas.
Which Arizona cities have the most tax accountant jobs?
Phoenix, Tempe, and Chandler are the Arizona cities with the most tax accountant openings. Phoenix dominates because it is home to most of the state's corporate headquarters, large public accounting offices, and financial services firms, while Scottsdale adds a significant cluster of wealth management and real estate companies, and Tucson draws steady demand from the University of Arizona, Pima County institutions, and regional business services firms.
Are there remote tax accountant jobs in Arizona?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 45% of tax accountant openings tied to Arizona are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well tax preparation and compliance work translates to a desk-based, document-driven workflow. Tax return preparation, tax research, and ASC 740 provision work are the functions most frequently posted as fully remote, while roles with direct client relationship management or multi-state audit coordination tend to require at least some in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a tax accountant in Arizona with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for staff tax accountant or tax associate roles at Arizona's regional public accounting firms, which regularly bring on recent graduates and train them through the busy season. Large Tucson and Phoenix firms run new-graduate recruiting programs tied to Arizona university accounting programs at the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Grand Canyon University. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as bookkeeper, accounts payable specialist, or financial analyst can transition effectively, especially if they have completed the coursework toward CPA eligibility or hold an Enrolled Agent credential from the IRS.
Where can I find and apply to tax accountant jobs in Arizona?
You can find and apply to tax accountant jobs in Arizona on Migrate Mate, which lists current Arizona openings from employers actively hiring right now. Search the listings to see roles that match your experience level, preferred location, and work arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
