Tax Accountant Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax accountant in Georgia?
Becoming a tax accountant in Georgia typically starts with earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, then pursuing CPA licensure through the Georgia State Board of Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and completing the required hours of supervised experience. Many Georgia employers treat an active or eligible-to-sit CPA status as a baseline for tax roles, even at the entry level. Firms and corporate tax departments in Atlanta often prioritize candidates from Georgia's strong accounting programs at Georgia Tech, UGA, and Kennesaw State.
How much do tax accountants make in Georgia?
Tax accountants in Georgia earn a median of about $49,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,780 for the lowest 10% to over $97,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax accountants in Georgia?
Employers hiring tax accountants in Georgia right now include RSM, ATR, and BDO, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Georgia's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and regional professional services firms means both large in-house corporate tax teams and public accounting practices are consistently active in the market.
Which Georgia cities have the most tax accountant jobs?
Atlanta, Savannah, and Gainesville have the most tax accountant openings in Georgia. Atlanta dominates because it is home to a dense cluster of corporate headquarters, Big Four and regional accounting firms, and financial services companies, while Savannah and Augusta draw openings from manufacturing, healthcare, and public sector employers that maintain local tax and finance functions.
Are there remote tax accountant jobs in Georgia?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of tax accountant openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the work. Compliance and tax preparation roles for individual and small-business clients tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while senior corporate tax positions at Georgia headquarters more often require at least a hybrid schedule.
How can I get hired as a tax accountant in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a public accounting firm in Atlanta's midsize or regional firm tier, where new-graduate staff accountant roles provide structured training across tax return preparation before specialization. Firms such as Aprio, Bennett Thrasher, and Habif Arogeti and Wynne regularly bring on candidates without prior professional experience. A lateral move from a bookkeeping or accounts-payable role at a Georgia manufacturer or healthcare system also provides a credible bridge. Sitting for the CPA exam while employed, even before passing, signals seriousness and accelerates promotion into dedicated tax work.
Where can I find and apply to tax accountant jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to tax accountant jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Georgia employers across Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, and beyond. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to the employers posting them.
