Tax Consultant Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax consultant in Kansas?
Most tax consultant roles in Kansas require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and competitive positions strongly favor candidates who hold or are pursuing a CPA license through the Kansas Board of Accountancy. The Kansas CPA pathway requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting the Board's education and experience hours. Candidates without a CPA can enter through tax preparer or accounting associate roles and build toward licensure while gaining practical experience.
How much do tax consultants make in Kansas?
Tax consultants in Kansas earn a median of about $47,300 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,980 for the lowest 10% to over $99,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax consultants in Kansas?
Employers hiring tax consultants in Kansas right now include Intuit, Koch, and AdamsBrown, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's mix of large regional banks, agriculture-linked corporations, and mid-size manufacturing firms creates consistent demand for tax professionals across both public accounting firms and in-house corporate tax departments.
Which Kansas cities have the most tax consultant jobs?
Topeka, Overland Park, and Wichita have the most tax consultant openings in Kansas. Overland Park and the broader Kansas City metro drive the largest share of postings, anchored by corporate headquarters, regional financial services firms, and large public accounting offices, while Wichita adds volume through its aerospace manufacturing sector and the regional banks and professional services firms that support it.
Are there remote tax consultant jobs in Kansas?
Yes, and more than most fields, since tax work is primarily analytical and document-driven rather than requiring a physical presence. About 29% of tax consultant openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's strong suitability for off-site work. Tax research, return preparation, and client advisory functions are the tasks most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a tax consultant in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a tax associate or staff accountant role at a regional CPA firm in the Overland Park or Wichita markets, where firms regularly hire recent accounting graduates for supervised tax preparation work. Large Kansas-based employers and national firms with Kansas offices run entry-level programs tied to tax season. Earning or actively pursuing the Kansas CPA license significantly strengthens a new candidate's application, and internship experience at any tax-focused firm transfers well.
Where can I find and apply to tax consultant jobs in Kansas?
You can find and apply to tax consultant jobs in Kansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the Kansas market. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
