Tax Manager Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax manager in Kansas?
Becoming a tax manager in Kansas starts with earning a CPA license through the Kansas Board of Accountancy, which requires passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination and completing the state's education and experience requirements. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance followed by several years of tax-focused work in public accounting or a corporate tax department before moving into a management role.
How much do tax managers make in Kansas?
Tax managers in Kansas earn a median of about $79,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,960 for the lowest 10% to over $129,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax managers in Kansas?
Companies currently hiring tax managers in Kansas include Koch, SJHL, and Aprio, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's mix of large industrial corporations, regional banks, and agricultural conglomerates creates steady demand for in-house tax management talent across the state.
Which Kansas cities have the most tax manager jobs?
Overland Park, Wichita, and Topeka have the most tax manager openings in Kansas. Wichita drives the largest share as the state's commercial center, anchored by major manufacturers and financial institutions, while Overland Park's concentration of corporate headquarters and professional services firms and Topeka's government-adjacent employers round out the distribution.
Are there remote tax manager jobs in Kansas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of tax manager openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on analysis, compliance filings, and software-based reporting rather than on-site presence. Federal and multistate compliance roles tend to offer the most flexibility, while positions requiring close coordination with a local finance team are more likely to be in-office.
How can I get hired as a tax manager in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is starting as a tax staff accountant or tax associate at a regional Kansas public accounting firm such as Mize CPAs or Advisors Excel's finance teams, then building toward manager-level roles over several years. Sitting for the CPA exam early signals commitment and accelerates promotion timelines. Entry-level candidates can also pursue associate rotational programs at Kansas corporate employers and move laterally into tax from general accounting, audit, or financial reporting roles.
Where can I find and apply to tax manager jobs in Kansas?
You can find and apply to tax manager jobs in Kansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kansas openings across Wichita, Overland Park, Topeka, and surrounding areas. Search the roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
