Insurance Agent Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance agent in Kansas?
To become an insurance agent in Kansas, you must obtain a producer license through the Kansas Insurance Department. Candidates choose a line of authority such as Property and Casualty or Life and Accident and Health, complete a state-approved pre-licensing education course, and pass the corresponding Prometric licensing exam. Once you pass, you submit a license application to the Kansas Insurance Department. No college degree is required by the state, though many employers prefer one.
Which companies hire insurance agents in Kansas?
Employers hiring insurance agents in Kansas right now include State Farm, Pioneer Agency, and BILL PIKUS-Farmers Insurance Agency, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's mix of regional mutual carriers, national direct writers, and independent agency networks means hiring is spread across both large corporate environments and locally owned firms.
Which Kansas cities have the most insurance agent jobs?
Overland Park, Wichita, and Olathe have the most insurance agent openings in Kansas. Wichita leads as the state's largest metro with a dense concentration of regional carriers and independent agencies, while Overland Park benefits from its proximity to the Kansas City metro and the corporate offices that have relocated there, and Topeka draws consistent hiring from state government-adjacent health and benefits carriers headquartered nearby.
Are there remote insurance agent jobs in Kansas?
Yes, though the role varies. About 57% of insurance agent openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that client-facing and community-based sales positions tend to require in-person presence while inside sales, service representative, and commercial underwriting support roles are more frequently offered remotely. Roles focused on renewals and inbound client service are the most consistently remote-eligible.
How can I get hired as a insurance agent in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining your Kansas producer license first, which signals seriousness to any hiring manager before you walk in the door. Large Kansas carriers like Shelter Insurance and Security Benefit regularly hire licensed candidates into structured new-agent programs that pair you with a mentor and provide a client base to start from. Independent agencies in Wichita and Overland Park often bring on customer service representatives or inside sales associates and promote from within. Adjacent roles in banking or financial services also provide a transferable foundation.
Where can I find and apply to insurance agent jobs in Kansas?
You can find and apply to insurance agent jobs in Kansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kansas openings from employers actively hiring. Search the listings, find roles that match your license type and experience, and apply directly to the employers that fit.
