Role Overview
The Tax Manager will lead and manage tax compliance for a publicly traded REIT, with primary responsibility for REIT qualification, partnership tax reporting, and multi-state compliance. This role is heavily execution- and review-focused, ensuring accurate and timely filings across a complex entity structure.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage REIT compliance, including preparation and review of quarterly and annual REIT testing and distribution requirements
- Oversee preparation and review of federal and multi-state REIT and partnership tax returns, including tiered structures and operating partnerships
- Review Schedule K-1s, allocations, and investor reporting
- Ensure timely filing of REIT, partnership, and corporate tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments
- Coordinate multi-state compliance, including composite filings and withholding requirements
- Manage internal tax team and external tax advisors and review deliverables
- Respond to tax notices, audits, and information requests
- Partner with accounting, legal, and investment teams on tax-related inquiries and to ensure accurate tax reporting data
- 5–8+ years of tax experience within public accounting and/or private industry, with emphasis on REIT and partnership tax compliance
- Strong technical knowledge of REIT qualification rules and partnership taxation
- Experience with multi-state tax filings and apportionment
- CPA preferred
- Experience in a publicly traded REIT or real estate platform strongly preferred
- Strong Excel and tax compliance software experience
