Accounting Assistant Jobs in Colorado: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting assistant in Colorado?
Accounting assistants in Colorado typically enter the field with an associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or a related business discipline from a Colorado community college or university. The role carries no state-issued license, but candidates who earn the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers certification or a QuickBooks ProAdvisor credential stand out. Many Colorado employers, particularly in Denver's government and healthcare sectors, prefer candidates with coursework in Colorado tax compliance or fund accounting.
Which companies hire accounting assistants in Colorado?

Colorado's mix of government agencies, healthcare networks, and aerospace and defense contractors creates steady, year-round demand for accounting support roles.
Which Colorado cities have the most accounting assistant jobs?
Colorado Springs, Denver, and Boulder have the most accounting assistant openings in Colorado. Denver dominates as the state's financial and administrative center, home to the state government, large hospital systems, and corporate headquarters, while Colorado Springs and Boulder generate openings through defense contractors, tech firms, and university-affiliated organizations that maintain substantial back-office accounting teams.
Are there remote accounting assistant jobs in Colorado?
Yes, and more than many comparable office roles. About 0% of accounting assistant openings tied to Colorado are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and software-driven nature of the work. Accounts payable processing, invoice reconciliation, and payroll data entry are the functions most commonly offered on a remote or hybrid basis by Colorado employers.
How can I get hired as a accounting assistant in Colorado with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounts payable or billing clerk role, which large Colorado employers such as UCHealth, the Colorado Department of Personnel and Administration, and regional credit unions regularly post as true entry-level positions. Community college accounting programs at Front Range Community College or Pikes Peak State College often have direct relationships with local employers. Earning a QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification before applying gives candidates a concrete, verifiable skill that compensates for limited work history.
