Tax Senior Associate Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior associate in Pennsylvania?
Most Pennsylvania employers require a CPA license or active progress toward one through the Pennsylvania State Board of Accountancy, which administers CPA licensure and requires passing the Uniform CPA Exam. Candidates typically hold a bachelor's degree in accounting plus the additional credit hours Pennsylvania requires for licensure eligibility. From there, the typical path runs through staff associate roles at public accounting firms or corporate tax departments before promotion to the senior level.
How much do tax senior associates make in Pennsylvania?
Tax senior associates in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $79,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,680 for the lowest 10% to over $130,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax senior associates in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring tax senior associates in Pennsylvania right now include BDO, CBIZ, and Distro, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's deep concentration of Big Four and regional accounting firms, alongside large corporate headquarters in the Philadelphia suburbs and Pittsburgh, keeps demand for senior-level tax talent consistent throughout the year.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most tax senior associate jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Wayne lead Pennsylvania for tax senior associate openings. Philadelphia dominates because of its dense cluster of Big Four offices, regional accounting firms, and Fortune 500 corporate headquarters, while Pittsburgh draws hiring through its financial services sector and major university-affiliated institutions, and suburban markets like King of Prussia attract openings from large companies with regional headquarters there.
Are there remote tax senior associate jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. Tax senior associate work is largely analytical and document-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 50% of tax senior associate openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broad adoption across public accounting firms and corporate tax teams. Federal and state tax compliance work and review-level tasks are the most commonly offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a tax senior associate in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff associate role at a Pennsylvania public accounting firm, where many Big Four and regional firms run structured new-graduate programs that rotate candidates through tax, audit, and advisory before promotion. Large Pennsylvania employers like Grant Thornton and BDO hire directly from Pennsylvania accounting programs for entry-level tax associate roles. Building toward CPA exam eligibility at a Pennsylvania school with qualifying credit hours and gaining exposure to tax preparation software gives candidates a meaningful edge over applicants without those credentials.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior associate jobs in Pennsylvania?
