Tax Senior Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a tax senior job in San Diego?
Focus on San Diego's strongest hiring pockets: large regional CPA firms in the UTC and downtown corridors, the tax departments of publicly traded biotech and defense contractors in Sorrento Valley, and the real estate and REIT sector clustered in Carmel Valley. Candidates with CPA licensure, a background in partnership or corporate tax, and experience with California-specific filing nuances move to the top of the list fastest in this market.
Which companies hire tax seniors in San Diego?
San Diego tax senior roles are posted by KPMG, Martinico & Associates, and TALNT and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market is a mix of Big Four and regional accounting firms, in-house tax teams at life sciences and defense companies, and wealth management offices serving San Diego's high-net-worth client base.
Are there remote tax senior jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though it depends on the role: tax review, research, and compliance work tends to be more remote-friendly, while roles requiring client interaction or hands-on audit support are typically on-site. About 58% of tax senior openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the fully remote positions most common at larger regional firms and national companies with San Diego-based teams.
How can I get a tax senior job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining one of San Diego's mid-size regional CPA firms at the tax associate or staff accountant level, where promotion timelines to senior are typically two to three years. Local biotech and life sciences companies also hire junior tax analysts who move into senior roles as the team grows. Getting your CPA and building California franchise tax and R&D credit experience early makes a meaningful difference in this market.
