Technical Accounting Manager Jobs in San Francisco: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a technical accounting manager job in San Francisco?
Focus your search on San Francisco's Financial District and SoMa, where public technology companies, pre-IPO startups, and financial services firms hire most heavily for this role. Experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition or ASC 842 lease accounting stands out with local employers preparing for or maintaining public company status. A CPA license and Big Four or regional firm background are the clearest differentiators in this market.
Which companies hire technical accounting managers in San Francisco?
Companies currently hiring technical accounting managers in San Francisco include OpenAI, CBIZ, and Gong, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Francisco's employer mix skews toward publicly traded technology firms, high-growth fintech companies, and professional services organizations with complex reporting requirements.
Are there remote technical accounting manager jobs in San Francisco?
Yes, though the role involves enough cross-functional collaboration and review cycles that fully remote positions are less common than hybrid arrangements. About 89% of technical accounting manager openings tied to San Francisco are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with most employers expecting periodic on-site presence. Policy research, memo drafting, and close-support tasks tend to be the most portable portions of the role.
How can I get a technical accounting manager job in San Francisco with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up through a senior accountant or accounting research analyst role at one of San Francisco's many pre-IPO technology companies, which often build technical accounting functions from scratch and promote internally. Regional audit firms serving the Bay Area startup ecosystem also develop technical accounting talent at earlier career stages. Building a portfolio of technical memos and volunteering for complex estimates during year-end close accelerates the transition.
Which industries hire the most technical accounting managers in San Francisco?
The sectors hiring the most technical accounting managers in San Francisco are Technology & Software, Accounting & Auditing, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Francisco's concentration of publicly listed technology companies and venture-backed firms at late funding stages creates persistent demand for professionals who can manage SEC reporting and new standard adoption.
