Investment Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a investment analyst in California?
Most investment analyst roles in California require a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field, followed by relevant experience in financial analysis or modeling. Roles involving investment advice to clients often require the Series 65 license, administered by FINRA and recognized by California through the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. Many candidates pursue the CFA designation to strengthen credibility, particularly for buy-side and asset management positions.
How much do investment analysts make in California?
Investment analysts in California earn a median of about $109,110 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,840 for the lowest 10% to over $198,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire investment analysts in California?
Employers hiring investment analysts in California right now include PIMCO, Pacific Life, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology firms, venture capital funds, and large regional banks means demand is broad, from growth-stage startups seeking financial analysts to established asset managers staffing research teams.
Which California cities have the most investment analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Newport Beach, and Los Angeles have the most investment analyst openings in California. San Francisco dominates due to its dense cluster of venture capital firms, hedge funds, and fintech companies, while Los Angeles draws hiring from entertainment finance, private equity, and large corporate treasury teams, and San Jose reflects demand from Silicon Valley technology companies managing large balance sheets and corporate development functions.
Are there remote investment analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 21% of investment analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the work. Research and modeling tasks are particularly well suited to remote arrangements, though roles involving direct client relationship management or trading desk support are more likely to require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a investment analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for junior analyst or financial analyst associate roles at California's large regional banks, asset managers, or corporate finance teams. Firms like Wells Fargo and large technology companies run structured rotational or new-graduate analyst programs in California. Building a portfolio of financial models and pursuing CFA Level I candidacy signals seriousness to hiring managers and compensates for limited experience in a competitive state market.
Where can I find and apply to investment analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to investment analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly.
