As Brex nears $1B in revenue, we are building a best-in-class Partnerships organization grounded in clear priorities and disciplined execution. Within Business Development, the Private Equity Channel team is responsible for building partnerships with PE firms to drive new customer growth, generate pipeline, and increase engagement and monetization of existing customers.
Over the past 12 months, Brex's PE channel hit an inflection point, turning Tier 1 private equity firms into active referral sources for their portfolio companies due to demonstrable ROI. That model was proven on the East Coast through consistent in-market presence: dinners, conferences, events, and the trust that compounds across repeated value-added touchpoints.
The West Coast is the next unlock. San Francisco and Los Angeles hold a dense concentration of Tier 1 sponsors and their portfolio companies. We're hiring a Partner Manager to own that book end-to-end to represent Brex across the West Coast PE ecosystem.
We are hiring a Partner Manager, Private Equity to support West Coast coverage for Brex's PE partnerships strategy. Based in San Francisco, you will serve as the in-market relationship builder for PE firms across San Francisco and Los Angeles.
This is an individual contributor role for an ambitious relationship builder who wants to grow in the PE ecosystem. You'll engage PE partners and portfolio-company executives professionally, generate pipeline through high-volume personalized outreach, and over time build a West Coast book of your own.
Where You'll Work
This role will be based in our SF office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of three coordinated days in the office per week, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!
Responsibilities
- Own and grow a focused book of West Coast PE relationships across SF and LA. Be consistently in-market (dinners, coffees, industry events, and executive engagements) to build the trust that comes from value added touch points.
- Conduct introductory and qualification calls with PE firms, their portfolio companies, and active referrals to advance relationships and drive referral pipeline.
- Proactively generate new pipeline through outbound prospecting into West Coast PE firms and portfolio companies.
- Build and maintain a prioritized target list of West Coast firms and PE-backed companies using research, data tools, and internal inputs while tracking pipeline metrics and referral conversion through CRM.
- Collaborate with account executives to ensure timely follow-up on PE-sourced opportunities and support deal progression through close.
- Help produce marketing and engagement materials, run analysis on target firms and portfolios, support case study development for larger channel leverage, and oversee meeting agendas, partner summaries and talk tracks.
- Coordinate with Partner Marketing on event logistics, field events, and conferences targeting the West Coast PE ecosystem.
- Communicate partner insights, needs, and feedback internally to influence channel strategy and prioritization.
- Maintain clean and enriched CRM records across your book, including firm profiles, portfolio company contacts, and Brex relationship status.
- Support internal reporting, executive updates, and quarterly business reviews on West Coast channel performance.
- Analyze leading indicators such as meetings sourced, firms advanced to active-referring status, and referral conversion rates.
Requirements
- 3-6 years of experience in PE business development, sourcing, partnerships, or a related quota-carrying, relationship-driven role with exposure to the private equity ecosystem
- Established credibility in the private equity ecosystem; able to hold a room with partners and portfolio company executives from day one.
- Track record of success in outbound relationship development. Comfortable with high-volume, highly personalized outreach and motivated by pipeline-generation goals.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple active firm relationships and workstreams simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present clearly to internal stakeholders and senior external counterparts.
- Based in San Francisco; comfortable being in-market multiple evenings per week for dinners, events, and networking.
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to operate autonomously in a fast-paced, evolving environment while staying tightly aligned with a remote team lead.
- High degree of professionalism and relationship instincts; able to build trust quickly with PE partners and cross-functional Brex teams.
Compensation
The expected OTE range for this role is $180,800 - $226,000. The starting wage will depend on a number of factors including the candidate's location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. The OTE figure listed here includes base salary and commissions, which may or may not be earned depending on performance. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.

Private Equity Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a private equity professional in California?
Most private equity roles in California are filled through investment banking or management consulting pipelines, so the most direct path is two years at a California-based bank or advisory firm before recruiting. California has no state-issued license specific to private equity. A bachelor's degree in finance or economics is the baseline, and many California funds favor candidates with an MBA from a West Coast program for senior associate and vice president roles.
Which companies hire private equity professionals in California?
Employers hiring private equity professionals in California right now include Crosscountry Consulting, Rippling, and Alvarez & Marsal, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's deep technology and life sciences ecosystems mean many of these firms focus on growth equity and venture-adjacent buyout strategies rather than purely traditional leveraged buyouts.
Which California cities have the most private equity jobs?
San Francisco and Sacramento have the most private equity openings in California. San Francisco and Menlo Park dominate because of their proximity to Silicon Valley's venture and growth-equity ecosystem, while Los Angeles has grown significantly as a hub for media, consumer, and real assets funds headquartered or operating there.
Are there remote private equity jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical fields because deal work depends heavily on in-person due diligence, lender meetings, and portfolio company engagement. About 50% of private equity openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The roles most likely to offer flexible arrangements are portfolio operations, financial reporting, and back-office fund accounting positions.
How can I get hired as a private equity professional in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a private equity analyst role at a lower-middle-market or growth-equity fund, which California has in large supply across the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Boutique advisory firms and search funds actively hire candidates straight from undergraduate programs. A strong financial modeling test score, a completed CFA Level I, and demonstrated experience analyzing California-sector companies in technology or healthcare are the credentials that open doors at this level.
Where can I find and apply to private equity jobs in California?
You can find and apply to private equity jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across fund types, seniority levels, and major metros. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly from the listings.
