Tips for Your Investment Analyst Job Search
Tailor your resume to the deal
Investment analyst job descriptions often signal the firm's focus, whether it's LBO modeling, DCF valuation, or public market research. Mirror that language precisely in your resume's experience bullets and lead with quantified outcomes, not task descriptions.
Certify before you apply to senior roles
A CFA Level 1 pass or enrollment in the program signals commitment to the craft and often moves your resume past the first screen at asset managers and sell-side firms. List your exam date if you haven't yet passed.
Build a model before the interview
Most investment analyst interviews include a live modeling test or a take-home case study. Practice building a three-statement model and a simple DCF from scratch under time pressure, because interviewers care more about your process than your output.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists investment analyst openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by investment strategy
Your experience in public equities, private credit, or real assets is not interchangeable in hiring managers' eyes. When scanning openings, prioritize roles that name an asset class you've already worked in, and address that match explicitly in your cover letter.
Negotiate using role-specific leverage
At the offer stage, cite your CFA progress, a relevant modeling certification, or a sector specialty that the team lacks. Generic salary negotiation rarely lands well in finance, but showing you fill a specific gap gives the hiring manager a reason to go back to HR.
Investment Analyst Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most investment analysts?
The companies hiring the most investment analysts right now include JPMorganChase, Fitch Ratings, and Goldman Sachs, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings are concentrated across asset managers, investment banks, and corporate treasury teams.
How many investment analyst jobs are remote?
About 26% of investment analyst openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though in-office roles remain the norm at bulge-bracket banks and most buy-side firms. Equity research, credit analysis, and roles at smaller independent firms tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How do you become an investment analyst?
Start with a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a quantitative field, then build modeling skills through coursework, online programs, or self-directed practice using real company filings. Internships at banks, asset managers, or corporate finance teams are the most direct path to a first full-time role. Pursuing the CFA strengthens your candidacy significantly as you advance.
Can you get hired as an investment analyst with little experience?
Yes, entry-level investment analyst roles exist specifically for candidates early in their careers, but you'll need to demonstrate analytical ability through other signals. A strong financial model you built independently, a student investment fund, relevant coursework in valuation or accounting, or a finance internship all substitute for direct professional experience in a hiring manager's eyes.
What does the investment analyst interview process look like?
Most investment analyst interviews move through a recruiter screen, a technical phone round covering accounting and valuation fundamentals, and a case study or modeling test completed either live or as a take-home assignment. Final rounds typically include a panel with senior analysts or portfolio managers who assess your investment thesis and communication skills as much as your technical accuracy.
Where can I find and apply to investment analyst jobs?
You can find and apply to investment analyst jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each listing from the page.
