Tennis Coach Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tennis coach in New York?
New York does not issue a state-specific license for tennis coaches, but most employers require a recognized professional certification before hiring. The two most widely accepted credentials are from the United States Tennis Association and the Professional Tennis Registry, both of which require coursework, an on-court skills assessment, and a written exam. Larger facilities and school programs in New York also typically expect candidates to hold a valid CPR certification alongside their tennis credential.
Which companies hire tennis coachs in New York?
Employers hiring tennis coachs in New York right now include Schenectady City School District, Court 16, and Long Island University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense network of private clubs, municipal parks and recreation departments, and youth development nonprofits makes it one of the more active states for steady, recurring tennis coaching openings year-round.
Which New York cities have the most tennis coach jobs?
Schenectady, Brookville, and Canton account for the most tennis coach openings in New York. New York City dominates the list given its sheer volume of private clubs, NYJTL programming, and parks department courts across all five boroughs, while Long Island and Westchester County generate strong demand through their concentration of affluent private clubs and well-funded school athletic programs.
Are there remote tennis coach jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Tennis coaching is a hands-on, on-court role, which means the large majority of positions require in-person instruction. About 0% of tennis coach openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be administrative or director-level positions rather than active instructional roles. Pure on-court coaching work is almost always in person.
How can I get hired as a tennis coach in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a USTA or PTR entry-level certification and applying for junior instructor or assistant coach roles at New York City Parks and Recreation facilities or nonprofits like New York Junior Tennis and Learning, both of which regularly bring on newer coaches for structured youth programs. Lateral moves from roles such as physical education teacher, camp counselor, or fitness instructor are also common ways to get a first coaching credit. A documented certification and willingness to work varied hours at multiple courts gives candidates without a long resume a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to tennis coach jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to tennis coach jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the available roles, identify the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to each position without creating a profile or signing up.
