Education Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a education in New York?
To work as a teacher in New York, you must hold a certificate issued by the New York State Education Department through its Office of Teaching Initiatives. The path requires completing a state-approved teacher preparation program, passing the required New York State Teacher Certification Examinations, and fulfilling a student teaching component. Initial certificates are valid for five years and can be converted to a Professional Certificate after three years of teaching and completion of a master's degree.
Which companies hire educations in New York?
Employers hiring educations in New York right now include Long Island University, Syracuse University, and University at Buffalo, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's size and density of public, charter, and private institutions make it one of the most active states for education hiring year-round.
Which New York cities have the most education jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Syracuse have the most education openings in New York. New York City drives the bulk of demand as home to the largest public school system in the country, while Buffalo and other upstate cities generate consistent openings through their own large public districts, SUNY campuses, and regional private colleges.
Are there remote education jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're limited. Most education roles are inherently on-site because they involve direct instruction, classroom management, or in-person student support. About 5% of education openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be in curriculum development, instructional design, online tutoring, or education technology roles rather than classroom teaching.
How can I get hired as a education in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a paraprofessional or teaching assistant role within a New York City Department of Education school or a large upstate district, which requires only a high school diploma or some college credit and provides direct classroom exposure. Many SUNY and CUNY teacher preparation programs offer student teaching placements that lead to entry-level offers. Candidates who hold or are actively pursuing their New York State Initial Certificate, even provisionally, stand out in applicant pools for these positions.
Where can I find and apply to education jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to education jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the available roles, find ones that match your experience and credentials, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
