Position purpose: This an exciting opportunity to join a growing physical trading firm and help build a next-generation commodity trading and finance business. Our business approaches commodity trading differently, enabling producers and consumers with better data, insights, and tools, all through a unique platform and value proposition. We are a physical commodities trader operating across the globe and across a wide range of commodities and currencies – from Coffee to Corn to Cocoa – but we approach the industry differently: focused on delivering value to clients through a best-in-class platform (People, Processes, and Technology). With over $3B in revenue and fewer than 80 employees, this presents a unique opportunity for the candidate to join a growing, profitable commodity trader.
Primary duties will include:
- Analyze the firm's portfolio of physical commodity trades and assess exposure to movements in commodity, interest rate, and FX markets
- Design and execute derivative strategies (futures, options, OTC instruments) to manage market risk on a portfolio level
- Provide real-time pricing, risk management, and structuring support to physical trading teams
- Monitor valuation and risk models across our physical and financial portfolio
- Develop and maintain counterparty relationships with brokers, banks, and trading houses
- Support the development and pricing of new products and structured tools for physical trading clients
- Handle client interaction on order placement, execution, and fills with professionalism and urgency
- 3-6 years of experience in commodity trading, derivatives execution, or risk management
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with futures, options, and/or OTC derivative instruments
- Strong understanding of financial concepts: derivatives pricing, risk management, hedging strategy, and portfolio-level thinking
- Ability to operate independently in fast-moving markets while maintaining discipline around risk controls
- Strong communication skills, as you'll be interfacing with physical traders, counterparties, and senior leadership daily
- Experience as a commodity merchandiser, with understanding of basis dynamics, physical flows, and origination
- SQL or other database query experience
- Familiarity with analytical tools such as Python, R, or Excel VBA
- Experience with trading platforms such as Bloomberg, CQG, CME Direct, FXAll, or similar
Education / Certification Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
- Progress toward CFA charter or other evidence of continued learning
Working Environment:
- 4 days per week onsite, 1 day remote
- Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer
Hiring Salary Range $100,000 - $140,000. Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity and alignment with market data.) Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan. This compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position, is offered.
