ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Performance Automation team is dedicated to developing optimization tools that enhance our clients' advertising campaign outcomes, ensuring they meet or surpass their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
You will be working on enhancing machine learning model development; creating the tools and frameworks that allow for quicker iteration and refinement of models by data scientists, from creating ETLs that process petabytes of data to experimenting with novel model training architectures. You will be responsible for integrating models in our bidding infrastructure, where low latency and high performance are of paramount importance; your code will be running millions of times per second on datacenters across the entire globe.
You will be also working on developing and improving debugging and analytical tools for monitoring and adjusting the bidding system in real-time. Utilize these tools to quickly identify and address any issues, improving campaign efficiency and ensuring effective use of budgets and resources.
Our Software Engineer team members will participate actively in all aspects of designing, building, and delivering products for our clients.
We have dozens of mission-focused teams working across a wide spectrum of technological challenges. You will have the opportunity, depending on your interests and aptitude, to work on large-scale distributed systems coordinating thousands of servers in cloud and physical data centers around the world, petabyte-scale data challenges, machine learning, advanced visualizations, and interactive user interfaces – to name a few.
Trade Desk Software Engineers contribute to more than our product – they build up our team. Through a combination of mentoring, technical leadership, and/or direct management of small teams, they make others better and raise the bar for those around them.

- You understand engineering fundamentals. At our scale, many off-the-shelf techniques and existing technologies (open source and enterprise) simply don't work. You are able to work from first principles to evaluate solutions and adapt them to a unique environment.
- You are a broadly skilled engineer, accustomed to developing web services. You have experience building always-on systems, working across a variety of technologies and service layers.

Tips for Your The Trade Desk Job Search
Tailor your resume for programmatic fluency
The Trade Desk hiring teams look for hands-on platform experience, not just familiarity. Name the DSPs, SSPs, and data clean rooms you've worked in, and call out campaign types, audience strategies, and measurement frameworks you've owned directly.
Quantify outcomes in every bullet
Vague claims about 'managing campaigns' won't stand out. Replace them with specific results: impression volume, ROAS improvement, or cost-per-acquisition changes you drove. Hiring managers at adtech companies read hundreds of resumes and skip past anything without proof.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists the trade desk openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by team function before applying
The trade desk hires across sales, engineering, data science, and client services, and each team expects different signals on your resume. Match your application materials to the team's language, not just the job title, to avoid being screened out early.
Prepare a platform walkthrough for interviews
Technical and client-facing interviews often include a live demo or scenario exercise on a DSP. Practice narrating your decisions aloud as you set up a campaign, including targeting rationale, bidding logic, and how you'd measure success against a client goal.
Negotiate using total compensation, not base alone
Adtech roles frequently include equity, performance bonuses, and quarterly incentives alongside salary. Before accepting or countering any offer, ask for the full compensation breakdown so you're comparing equivalent structures across competing offers.
The Trade Desk Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How many the trade desk jobs are remote?
About 6% of the trade desk openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting a broader shift across the adtech industry. Client services, strategy, and analytics roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while platform engineering and solutions engineering positions are more likely to require some in-office presence.
How do you become a the trade desk?
Start by building hands-on experience with programmatic platforms through internships, freelance campaign work, or agency roles. Develop proficiency in at least one DSP and learn how to read and act on campaign data. Move into specialist or associate roles at an agency or brand-side team, then build a portfolio of measurable results before targeting more senior positions.
Can you get hired as the trade desk with little or no experience?
Entry-level roles in campaign operations, ad trafficking, or programmatic support are realistic starting points without extensive experience. Employers in adtech often value demonstrated platform curiosity, so completing free certifications on major DSPs, running a small personal or student campaign, and showing analytical thinking in interviews can offset a thin work history effectively.
What does the the trade desk interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on background and motivation, followed by a hiring manager conversation about platform knowledge and past campaign work. Later rounds often include a case study or live scenario exercise where you walk through a campaign setup or client problem. Final rounds may involve a panel with cross-functional team members assessing both technical and communication skills.
