Therapist Jobs in St. Louis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in St. Louis?
Focus your search on St. Louis's large healthcare systems, federally qualified health centers, and the cluster of behavioral health nonprofits serving North and South City neighborhoods. Candidates with experience in trauma-informed care, substance use treatment, or child and adolescent therapy tend to move faster in this market. Familiarity with the populations served by St. Louis's community mental health organizations gives applicants a practical edge over generalists.
Which companies hire therapists in St. Louis?
St. Louis therapist roles are posted by BJC HealthCare, Mercy, and American Traveler and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market includes major academic medical centers, regional hospital networks, school districts, and independent outpatient practices concentrated in Clayton and the Central West End.
Are there remote therapist jobs in St. Louis?
Yes, though remote work is less common for therapists than for purely desk-based roles given the nature of clinical care. About 24% of therapist openings tied to St. Louis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth positions making up most of that share. Roles in assessments, care coordination, and EAP counseling are the most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements locally.
How can I get a therapist job in St. Louis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in St. Louis is through a supervised internship or practicum placement at one of the city's community mental health centers or school-based health programs. Employers such as federally qualified health centers and nonprofit social service agencies in North City and South City regularly hire provisionally licensed therapists and offer clinical supervision toward full licensure. Bilingual candidates, particularly in Spanish, have a meaningful advantage given the needs of St. Louis's Latinx communities.
Which industries hire the most therapists in St. Louis?
Most therapist openings in St. Louis sit in Healthcare & Medical Services and Education, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. St. Louis's strong base of academic medical centers, children's hospital networks, and publicly funded behavioral health programs makes healthcare and social services the dominant drivers of local therapist hiring.
