Physician Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician in Missouri?
To practice medicine in Missouri, you must hold an active license from the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. The path requires completing a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, passing all three steps of the USMLE or COMLEX, and completing at least one year of accredited graduate medical education. Missouri participates in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which can accelerate licensure for physicians already licensed in a qualifying state.
Which companies hire physicians in Missouri?
Missouri physician roles are posted by Mercy, TeamHealth, and Purple Cow Recruiting and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's largest hiring volume tends to cluster around integrated health systems and academic medical centers anchored in St. Louis and Kansas City.
Which Missouri cities have the most physician jobs?
St. Louis, Springfield, and Kansas City account for the highest concentration of physician openings in Missouri. St. Louis drives the largest share because of its dense cluster of academic medical centers and multi-hospital systems, while Kansas City's major regional health systems sustain steady demand, and Springfield serves as the primary hiring hub for southwest Missouri's Mercy and Cox Health networks.
Are there remote physician jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. About 33% of physician openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on, patient-facing nature of most clinical roles. The positions most likely to be fully remote are in telehealth primary care, psychiatry, and utilization review or case management, where patient interaction can occur entirely through virtual platforms.
How can I get hired as a physician in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a residency program at one of Missouri's teaching hospitals, such as those affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine, University of Missouri Health Care, or Saint Luke's, which transition residents directly into attending roles. New graduates should target new-physician onboarding programs at BJC HealthCare and Mercy, and consider locum tenens placements through Missouri's rural critical access hospitals, which regularly hire physicians without extensive post-residency experience. Board eligibility and a clean Missouri license application are the strongest credentials at this stage.
Where can I find and apply to physician jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to physician jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Missouri employers. Search for roles that match your specialty, experience level, and preferred location, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
