Physician Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician in Indiana?
You become a physician in Indiana by earning an MD or DO degree, completing an accredited residency, passing the USMLE or COMLEX licensing exams, and obtaining a medical license through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. The Indiana Medical Licensing Board oversees applications and renewals. Subspecialists must also complete fellowship training and pursue board certification in their specialty before most Indiana hospital systems extend privileges.
Which companies hire physicians in Indiana?
Companies currently hiring physicians in Indiana include TeamHealth, Indiana University Health, and Franciscan Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indiana's largest health systems, including IU Health and Ascension St. Vincent, maintain particularly deep and ongoing physician recruiting pipelines across both urban medical centers and regional community hospitals throughout the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most physician jobs?
Indianapolis, Avon, and Carmel have the most physician openings in Indiana. Indianapolis anchors the market as the state capital and home to the IU School of Medicine and several major health systems, while Fort Wayne and South Bend generate consistent demand through large regional medical centers like Parkview Health and Beacon Health System serving northwest and north-central Indiana populations.
Are there remote physician jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 23% of physician openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how hands-on the role is by nature. The positions most likely to carry a remote or hybrid component are telehealth primary care, psychiatric consultations, and utilization review roles that do not require direct in-person patient examination.
How can I get hired as a physician in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for employed physician positions at Indiana's large health systems during or immediately after residency, when new-grad credentialing timelines align with typical hiring cycles. IU Health and Community Health Network run structured onboarding programs for early-career physicians and prioritize candidates completing Indiana-based residency programs. Roles such as hospitalist and urgent care attending are among the most accessible for physicians without post-residency attending experience, and holding full Indiana licensure before applying gives a candidate a meaningful edge over those still awaiting board results.
Where can I find and apply to physician jobs in Indiana?
You can find and apply to physician jobs in Indiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Indiana openings across health systems, hospitals, and multispecialty groups. Find roles that fit your specialty and experience level and apply directly to each one through the listing.
