Physician Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician in Ohio?
To become a physician in Ohio, you must earn an MD or DO degree, complete an accredited residency program, pass the USMLE or COMLEX licensing exams, and obtain an active license through the State Medical Board of Ohio. The Board handles all applications, verifications, and ongoing renewal requirements. Board certification in your specialty is not legally required to practice but is expected by most Ohio health systems before extending a permanent offer.
Which companies hire physicians in Ohio?
Employers hiring physicians in Ohio right now include TeamHealth, Mercy Health, and University Hospitals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Ohio's large integrated systems, including academic medical centers and regional community hospital networks, account for the majority of full-time openings across the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most physician jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland have the most physician openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because of the concentration of OhioHealth and Wexner Medical Center campuses there, Cleveland draws heavily from the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals systems, and Cincinnati is anchored by large employers including UC Health and TriHealth, making all three metros consistent sources of full-time physician demand.
Are there remote physician jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. About 13% of physician openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects how hands-on clinical care limits location flexibility for most roles. The positions most likely to be fully remote are utilization review, telemedicine consultations, and medical director roles that focus on administrative or case-management work rather than direct patient visits.
How can I get hired as a physician in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly into a structured residency or fellowship program at an Ohio academic medical center such as Wexner Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, or Cincinnati Children's. New graduates without post-residency attending experience can also look for locum tenens assignments through Ohio hospital systems, which regularly use temporary coverage to evaluate physicians before extending permanent offers. A full, unrestricted Ohio Medical Board license and current ACLS or BLS certification will give an early-career candidate a clear advantage over peers still completing credentialing.
Where can I find and apply to physician jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to physician jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings from employers across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your specialty and preferred location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
