Therapist Jobs in Philadelphia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in Philadelphia?
The strongest entry points in Philadelphia are its large academic health systems, federally qualified health centers, and community behavioral health organizations, which hire across outpatient, inpatient, and school-based settings. Neighborhoods like Kensington, West Philadelphia, and North Philadelphia have high concentrations of community mental health providers actively recruiting. Candidates with experience in trauma-informed care, substance use treatment, or bilingual services hold a clear advantage in this market.
Which companies hire therapists in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia therapist roles are posted by Thomas Jefferson University & Jefferson Health, Ivy Rehab Network, and Temple University Health System and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market is anchored by large hospital networks, nonprofit behavioral health agencies, and school district-contracted providers, all of which hire therapists across specialties on a rolling basis.
Are there remote therapist jobs in Philadelphia?
Yes, though therapist roles are hands-on by nature, so fully remote positions are less common than in desk-based fields. About 14% of therapist openings tied to Philadelphia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth platforms and EAP-contracted providers accounting for most of those listings. In-person work remains the norm for school-based, inpatient, and crisis intervention roles across the city.
How can I get a therapist job in Philadelphia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Philadelphia is through practicum or internship placements at community mental health centers, which frequently convert to paid positions. Philadelphia's network of federally qualified health centers and school district behavioral health programs regularly hire associate-level clinicians and counseling assistants. A background in case management, crisis support, or peer counseling makes candidates more competitive for those first roles, especially in underserved neighborhoods with persistent vacancies.
Which industries hire the most therapists in Philadelphia?
Most therapist openings in Philadelphia sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Agriculture & Farming, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Philadelphia's status as a major academic medical hub and its dense network of nonprofit behavioral health contractors drive sustained hiring across those sectors throughout the year.
