Frame your credentials around management consulting
TN visa status for this role requires fitting the Management Consultant category. Gather documentation showing your degree in business administration or a related field and evidence that your AGM duties involve analysis, planning, and organizational recommendations rather than routine supervision.
Target multi-unit operators with legal infrastructure
Hotel groups, restaurant chains, and retail operators running 10 or more locations typically have in-house HR and immigration counsel who can issue a proper TN support letter quickly. Single-location employers rarely have the documentation process ready.
Request a support letter tied to consulting functions
Your employer's TN support letter must describe the role in terms USCIS recognizes: operational analysis, efficiency recommendations, and strategic implementation. A letter that only says 'manages staff' is a common reason CBP questions TN eligibility at the border.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers unfamiliar with work visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters AGM roles by employers with recent visa filings, so you're targeting companies experienced with sponsorship who understand the documentation and support letter requirements for TN status.
Prepare for Canadian port-of-entry adjudication
Canadian citizens can apply for TN status directly at a land border or airport CBP checkpoint without scheduling a consular appointment. Bring your job offer letter, support letter, degree transcripts, and any professional licenses. CBP officers decide on the spot.
Understand Mexican applicants face consular scheduling
Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate and are subject to the TN annual allocation. Schedule your consular appointment as soon as your offer is confirmed and verify your documents match the Management Consultant category exactly before the interview date.
Assistant General Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Assistant General Manager role actually qualify for TN visa status?
It can, but qualification depends on how the role is defined, not just the job title. TN status applies under the Management Consultant category, which requires duties involving analysis, advisory functions, and strategic recommendations. If the position is primarily supervisory with little consultative or analytical scope, a CBP officer may question eligibility. Work with your employer to document the role accurately.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for an AGM role?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadians, so you aren't subject to the H-1B visa registration gamble. Canadian applicants can get TN status approved at the border the same day a job offer is accepted. The trade-off is that TN is nonimmigrant by design, meaning it doesn't support dual intent or a green card pathway the way H-1B can for some petitioners.
What documents does your employer need to prepare for your TN application?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that describes your AGM duties in terms matching the Management Consultant category: operational analysis, efficiency assessment, and strategic planning. It should state your Canadian or Mexican citizenship, your degree field, your employment start date, and confirm the position is temporary. Ambiguous language in that letter is the most common source of delays or denials.
Where can you find AGM roles that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job searches don't filter by employer visa sponsorship experience, which means you spend time approaching employers unfamiliar with work visa processes. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this, letting you search Assistant General Manager roles filtered by employers with recent visa filings so you're only reaching out to companies experienced with sponsoring work visas.
Can you switch AGM employers while on TN status without losing authorization?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You can't simply transfer it. Canadian citizens need to obtain a new TN at the border with a support letter from the new employer before starting work. Mexican citizens must return to a consulate for a new TN. If your current TN hasn't expired, you can apply for the new one without waiting for it to lapse.
