Match your title to USMCA categories
Logistics job titles vary widely, but TN visa eligibility depends on how your role maps to a USMCA-listed occupation. Frame your offer letter around Industrial Engineer, Management Consultant, or Scientific Technician rather than generic supply chain titles.
Build a degree-to-role evidence file
Gather your diploma, transcripts, and any professional credentials before you start applying. CBP officers assess on the spot whether your degree field connects directly to the logistics duties listed in your offer letter.
Target employers with cross-border freight operations
Companies moving goods across the U.S.-Canada or U.S.-Mexico border already understand USMCA and are more likely to recognize TN as a practical sponsorship path rather than defaulting to H-1B visa.
Ask employers about their TN filing process early
Some logistics employers have in-house counsel who handle TN letters routinely; others have never filed one. Raise the question before the offer stage so you know whether the team needs guidance or already has a process.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers already sponsoring TN roles
Search Migrate Mate to identify logistics employers with recent visa filings. Targeting companies already experienced with work visa sponsorship cuts the negotiation time and reduces the risk of an employer declining after an offer is extended.
Prepare a role-specific support letter for your employer
The employer support letter must connect your logistics duties to a specific USMCA occupation category. A vague letter citing general supply chain responsibilities is the most common reason CBP requests more documentation at the port of entry.
Logistics TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which USMCA occupation categories cover logistics roles?
Logistics professionals most often qualify under Industrial Engineer, Management Consultant, or Scientific Technician, depending on their specific duties. A supply chain planner focused on process optimization typically maps to Industrial Engineer, while a logistics consultant advising on operations strategy fits Management Consultant. Your offer letter must clearly tie your day-to-day duties to the listed occupation, not just use the job title.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for logistics professionals?
TN has no annual cap and no lottery, so Canadian citizens can get approval at the port of entry in a single day and Mexicans at a consular appointment within weeks. H-1B requires a lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate and months of processing. For logistics roles that qualify under USMCA, TN is a faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can Mexican logistics professionals use TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, but the process differs from the Canadian path. Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate in Mexico rather than at the port of entry. There is an annual limit on TN visas issued to Mexican nationals, though it has not historically been exhausted. Plan for a consular appointment and allow several weeks for processing after your employer prepares the support documentation.
How do I find logistics employers that sponsor TN visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for logistics roles where employers have TN sponsorship experience, which saves time compared to applying broadly and raising the visa question late in the process. Targeting employers already familiar with TN documentation reduces the risk of an offer falling through because the hiring team is unfamiliar with USMCA professional categories.
What happens if my logistics job title does not match a USMCA category exactly?
CBP evaluates the substance of your role, not the title on your offer letter. If your employer calls you a Supply Chain Manager but your actual duties involve engineering analysis of distribution systems, you can still qualify under Industrial Engineer. Work with your employer to draft a support letter that describes your duties in terms that align with the USMCA occupation definition rather than defaulting to your internal job title.
