Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship in Cardiovascular Surgeon
Verify your credentials meet U.S. board standards
TN visa classification requires proof of a medical degree and licensure, but U.S. surgical employers also expect board eligibility or certification. Confirm your Canadian or Mexican surgical training maps to ABTS or ABCS standards before applying.
Target academic medical centers with active recruitment pipelines
Teaching hospitals and health systems with cardiothoracic surgery programs are most experienced handling TN sponsorship paperwork. Prioritize institutions that list visa sponsorship explicitly in their physician recruitment postings.
Clarify TN status at the offer letter stage
Negotiate TN visa support before signing any employment agreement. Your offer letter must describe your role as a physician or surgeon and match the USMCA professional category exactly, vague job titles can cause problems at the port of entry.
Search TN-sponsored cardiovascular surgeon roles on Migrate Mate
Finding employers who actively sponsor TN visas for surgical roles is the hardest part of the process. Migrate Mate filters jobs by visa sponsorship type so you can target cardiovascular surgeon openings without sorting through irrelevant listings.
Prepare a complete credentials package for port of entry
Canadian citizens apply for TN status directly at a U.S. port of entry without a prior USCIS petition. Bring your medical degree, surgical training documentation, state license, and the signed employer support letter to avoid delays or secondary inspection.
Understand how Mexican TN allocation affects your timeline
Mexican nationals must obtain a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate before entry, and Mexico's annual TN allocation is capped. File your DS-160 and schedule your consular appointment early, especially for roles starting within 60 to 90 days.
Cardiovascular Surgeon TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does cardiovascular surgery qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Yes. Cardiovascular surgeons qualify under the USMCA physician and surgeon professional category. Your role must require a medical degree and involve direct patient care in a specialty that maps to that category. The TN is employer-specific, so each new position requires a fresh application or amendment tied to that employer's support letter.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for cardiovascular surgeons?
TN has no annual cap and no lottery for Canadians, making it far more predictable than H-1B. Canadians can get TN status the same day at a port of entry. H-1B requires USCIS adjudication and a lottery selection before any approval. For a cardiovascular surgeon with a qualifying job offer, TN is typically faster and more reliable to activate.
Which U.S. employers sponsor TN visas for cardiovascular surgeons?
Academic medical centers, integrated health systems, and large hospital networks are the most consistent TN sponsors for cardiovascular surgeons. These institutions have in-house legal teams or retained immigration counsel familiar with physician TN filings. Community hospitals occasionally sponsor too, but their familiarity with TN documentation varies. Use Migrate Mate to find cardiovascular surgeon roles explicitly listed with TN visa sponsorship.
Can I hold a U.S. state medical license on TN status while pursuing permanent residency?
TN status does not allow dual intent, meaning it's not designed for those actively pursuing a green card. You can hold a state medical license and work on TN without issue, but filing an immigrant petition simultaneously may raise questions about your nonimmigrant intent. Speak with an immigration attorney if you're considering both paths at the same time.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN sponsorship?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that describes your position as a physician or surgeon, confirms your qualifications, lists the location and duration of employment, and states that the role is temporary. For Canadian applicants, this letter is presented directly at the border alongside your credentials. Mexican applicants submit it as part of the consular visa application package.
