Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Chief Financial Officer
Align your credentials to USMCA accountant requirements
The TN Accountant category requires a degree in accounting or a directly related field. A finance or economics degree can qualify, but you'll need to document how your coursework maps to accounting practice before your interview.
Target public companies with active visa filing histories
CFO roles at SEC-reporting companies often attract candidates from employers experienced with visa sponsorship. Look for positions at organizations with recent work visa filings, as these employers demonstrate familiarity with immigration processes. For TN status, your prospective employer will need to prepare a support letter outlining your qualifications and role—a straightforward process for companies with established hiring practices. Focus on roles at larger firms with dedicated HR or immigration teams, as they're better equipped to manage the documentation required for TN applications at the port of entry or consulate.
Use Migrate Mate to find CFO roles with TN sponsorship
Most CFO postings don't advertise TN sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate filters roles by visa type and seniority level, surfacing financial leadership positions from employers who've already sponsored TN professionals in finance.
Prepare a detailed petitioner support letter covering your scope
CBP officers at the port of entry need to confirm you're practicing accounting at a professional level. Your employer's letter should specify financial reporting, audit oversight, or treasury management responsibilities, not just a generic executive title.
Ask about TN renewal timelines before accepting an offer
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no statutory cap on renewals for Canadians, but each renewal requires a new employer letter and CBP review. Confirm your prospective employer understands this cycle and has an HR process for managing it.
Mexican applicants should schedule the consular appointment early
TN visas for Mexican citizens require a consular interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate, and appointment availability varies significantly by location. Build at least six to eight weeks into your start date timeline to account for scheduling and processing delays.

Find Chief Financial Officer JobsChief Financial Officer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Chief Financial Officer role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, CFO positions qualify under the TN Accountant category when the role requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, and the core responsibilities involve professional-level accounting practice. Titles like CFO or VP of Finance are acceptable as long as the job duties align with the accountant definition under USMCA. A generic executive role without financial reporting or accounting responsibilities would not qualify.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a CFO seeking U.S. employment?
TN is available to Canadian and Mexican citizens without a lottery or annual cap, so Canadians can secure status at a port of entry the same day with the right documents. H-1B requires surviving a randomized lottery, waiting up to a year for the October 1 start date, and employer-sponsored USCIS filing. For a CFO with Canadian or Mexican citizenship, TN is a faster and more predictable path than competing in the H-1B lottery.
Where can I find CFO jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most executive job postings don't specify which visa categories they'll support, which makes filtering difficult on general platforms. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN, H-1B, and other sponsored roles, so you can search CFO and senior finance positions from employers who've demonstrated willingness to sponsor professional visas, without sorting through listings that won't consider your status.
Can a Canadian CFO candidate enter the U.S. and start work on the same day?
Yes. Canadian citizens don't need a visa stamp and can apply for TN status directly at a land border crossing or preclearance airport. If CBP approves the petition, you receive a TN admission and your I-94 on the spot. You'll need a valid job offer letter, your degree credentials, and documentation showing the role qualifies under the USMCA Accountant category.
What happens to TN status if a CFO changes employers or companies are acquired?
TN status is employer-specific, so a company acquisition, merger, or voluntary job change all require a new TN petition. For Canadians, that means a new port-of-entry application with a letter from the new employer. For Mexican citizens, it typically means a new consular appointment. Starting the process before the role change takes effect avoids a gap in authorized work status.
