Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Medical Assistant
Verify your credential meets TN requirements
TN visa status for medical assistants typically requires a post-secondary credential in medical assisting or a closely related field. Confirm your certificate, diploma, or degree maps to the occupational category before applying to roles advertising TN sponsorship.
Target multi-site clinic networks over solo practices
Large outpatient clinic networks and hospital systems are more likely to sponsor TN visas than small independent practices. Their HR teams have experience navigating work visa sponsorship, which streamlines the support letter process and shortens the time between your offer letter and your start date.
Get your credential evaluated before the offer stage
Mexican professionals with credentials from Mexican institutions should obtain a credential evaluation before employers start the filing process. Delays in evaluation are a common bottleneck that can push back your start date by several weeks.
Ask employers about their TN visa process upfront
Employer support letters are a key requirement for TN visa sponsorship. During offer negotiation, ask hiring managers whether they prepare support letters in-house or work with outside counsel—this will help you understand the timeline for presenting your documentation at the port of entry (for Canadians) or U.S. consulate (for Mexicans).
Use Migrate Mate to find verified TN sponsoring employers
Filtering for clinical medical assistant roles at employers with recent visa filings cuts your search time significantly. Migrate Mate surfaces employers experienced with visa sponsorship, so you're not cold-applying to practices unfamiliar with the process.
Prepare for port-of-entry TN review as a Canadian
Canadians can apply for TN status directly at a land border or airport without a consular appointment. Bring your offer letter, credential documentation, and a support letter from your employer. CBP officers will adjudicate your status on the spot.
Clinical Medical Assistant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the clinical medical assistant role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Clinical medical assistant positions can qualify under the TN category when the role requires a post-secondary credential or degree in medical assisting or a related health science field. The job duties must align with the occupational definition USCIS uses to evaluate TN petitions. Roles that only require on-the-job training without a formal credential are less likely to qualify.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for clinical medical assistant jobs?
The TN visa has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadian applicants, which means sponsorship can happen any time of year without waiting for a selection result. H-1B visa requires registration, a lottery draw, and a fixed October 1 start date. For clinical medical assistant roles, TN is also faster for Canadians, who can obtain status at a port of entry the same day their documentation is approved.
What documentation does my employer need to sponsor my TN visa?
Your employer needs to prepare a support letter documenting your position, duties, and TN eligibility based on your qualifications and the role requirements. They'll also provide a formal offer letter detailing your position and compensation. You're responsible for gathering your credential documents—including your degree, professional licenses, and relevant certifications—which you'll present along with the support letter at your U.S. port of entry (for Canadian citizens) or at a U.S. consulate (for Mexican citizens) during your TN visa application.
Where can I find clinical medical assistant jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for TN and other work visa job searches, filtering roles by employers with confirmed sponsorship history. Searching general job boards often means contacting employers who aren't familiar with TN requirements, which creates delays. Focusing your search on platforms built for visa-sponsored roles saves time and improves your chances of reaching a responsive employer quickly.
Can a Mexican national get TN visa sponsorship for a clinical medical assistant role?
Yes, Mexican nationals qualify for TN status under USMCA for the same occupational categories as Canadians, but there is a limited annual allocation for Mexican TN applicants rather than an open cap. Mexican professionals also apply through a U.S. consulate rather than at a port of entry, which adds a consular interview step. Credential evaluation for Mexican-issued certifications is often required and should be completed before starting the employer filing process.
