Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Psychologist
Confirm your doctoral credential meets requirements
TN status for Psychologists requires a doctoral degree in psychology. A master's degree alone won't qualify, even with years of clinical experience. Get your transcripts evaluated by a credential assessment service before applying to any role.
Target employers with licensed supervision infrastructure
Hospitals, university counseling centers, and VA-affiliated clinics often have experience sponsoring work visas because they regularly manage state licensure compliance and professional credentialing. Employers without HR immigration experience may hesitate at the offer stage when they realize TN support letters require specific documentation—like proof of your psychology degree, professional credentials, and job description details—that demonstrates your role qualifies under TN professional categories.
Search for TN-ready Psychologist roles on Migrate Mate
Filtering for employers with active TN or H-1B filing history dramatically narrows your list to realistic sponsorship opportunities. Migrate Mate surfaces these roles specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals, saving hours of manual research.
Clarify state licensure status before your TN filing
Many U.S. states require a state psychology license before you can practice independently. CBP officers can flag roles where licensure is pending, so confirm with your employer whether the offered position requires a current license and document your licensure timeline in the support letter.
Request a detailed employer support letter citing USMCA
Your employer's TN support letter must explicitly reference your doctoral degree, the Psychologist category under USMCA Appendix 2, and your specific job duties. Vague letters citing only 'psychology services' are a common cause of secondary inspection delays at the border.
Understand Mexican nationals face a TN allocation limit
Mexico's TN allocation under USMCA is capped at 5,500 per year across all qualifying occupations. If you're a Mexican national, apply early in the fiscal year and ask your employer to confirm they've filed TN petitions for Mexican nationals before to avoid processing gaps.

Find Psychologist JobsPsychologist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Psychologist role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. Psychologist is an explicitly listed occupation under the USMCA TN category. You need a doctoral degree in psychology, a qualifying job offer from a U.S. employer, and an employer support letter documenting that the role requires psychological services at a professional level. Canadian citizens can apply at a port of entry or consulate; Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Psychologist positions?
TN is faster and more predictable for psychologists than H-1B. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and no USCIS petition required for Canadian applicants crossing at the border. H-1B selection is randomized and capped at 85,000 annually. The tradeoff is that TN is tied to a specific employer and doesn't offer a direct path to permanent residence the way H-1B does.
Can I find Psychologist jobs with TN sponsorship on Migrate Mate?
Yes. Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN-eligible roles. You can filter for Psychologist positions at employers with documented sponsorship history, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying to organizations that have never navigated TN filings before.
Does my employer need to file anything with USCIS for my TN status?
Canadian nationals do not require a USCIS-filed petition. The employer prepares a support letter and you present it at a port of entry or U.S. consulate, where CBP adjudicates the TN on the spot. Mexican nationals require a consular visa appointment, but still do not go through the H-1B-style USCIS petition process. The entire process is significantly more employer-friendly than H-1B.
What happens if I hold a provisional or conditional psychology license?
CBP does not require a state psychology license to approve TN status, but your employer's support letter must accurately describe your job duties and supervision structure. If state law requires licensure for the role you're filling, a lack of licensure can complicate the employer's ability to legally employ you, which can surface during the border interview. Clarify licensure requirements with your employer before the TN filing.
