Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Development Manager
Align your degree to the posted role
TN eligibility depends on your degree field matching the job's technical scope. A Development Manager role filed under Engineer requires an engineering degree. A mismatch between your credentials and the TN category your employer selects is the most common denial trigger.
Request a support letter before accepting
Your employer's TN support letter must describe your role in terms of a qualifying USMCA occupation. Before signing an offer, confirm the letter specifies your degree field, job duties, and the TN category being claimed, not just your job title.
Target companies experienced with visa sponsorship
Employers experienced with visa sponsorship already understand the support letter requirements and documentation standards for work visas. Use Migrate Mate to filter Development Manager roles by employers with recent visa filings, which indicates familiarity with sponsorship processes and a higher likelihood of supporting TN applications at the port of entry or consulate.
Prepare for port-of-entry review as a Canadian
Canadian citizens apply for TN status at the U.S. border, not a consulate. Bring your original degree transcripts, the employer support letter, and your offer letter. CBP officers can ask detailed questions about your managerial versus technical duties.
Clarify whether your role is primarily managerial
Development Managers who oversee teams without hands-on technical responsibilities can face TN scrutiny, since TN categories require professional-level practice, not general management. Work with your employer to document that your role involves substantive technical judgment, not only people management.
Understand the Mexican consular appointment timeline
Mexican citizens must attend a consular interview, and wait times at U.S. consulates in Mexico vary significantly by location and season. Factor at least four to eight weeks into your start date negotiation to avoid conflicts with your employer's onboarding schedule.

Find Development Manager JobsDevelopment Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Development Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
It depends on how the role is structured and filed. Development Manager positions can qualify under the Engineer or Computer Systems Analyst TN categories if the duties require professional-level technical judgment and your degree aligns with the claimed category. Roles that are predominantly managerial with minimal technical practice are harder to support under TN requirements.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a Development Manager position?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start work as soon as CBP approves your application at the border. H-1B requires registration in a lottery held once a year, and selection is not guaranteed. For Mexican citizens, TN has a 5,500-per-year allocation, which has historically gone unused, making it far more accessible than the H-1B for most applicants.
Where can I find Development Manager jobs that explicitly offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa type, so identifying TN-sponsoring employers takes manual research. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this, letting you search Development Manager roles by employers with documented TN sponsorship activity so you're not applying blind and hoping the employer knows what TN status involves.
Can I switch employers on TN status as a Development Manager?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to the specific employer who sponsored it. If you change jobs, the new employer must independently support your TN status before you begin work. Canadian citizens can present the new employer's letter at a port of entry; Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment. There is no grace period for TN holders who leave their sponsoring employer.
What documentation does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, a description of duties tied to a qualifying TN occupation, your required credentials, your anticipated length of employment, and your compensation. The letter is not filed with USCIS for Canadians but is reviewed directly by CBP at the port of entry, so precision in the letter's language directly affects your approval.
