Align your credentials to Management Consultant
Executive Search doesn't have its own TN category. You'll need to frame your role under Management Consultant, which requires a bachelor's degree in business, HR, or organizational psychology. Document how talent identification and advisory work is the primary function of the position.
Prioritize firms with dedicated HR or legal teams
Boutique search firms often lack in-house immigration support. Targeting retained search firms and large staffing groups with HR departments familiar with TN paperwork reduces delays and lowers the risk of a poorly drafted offer letter derailing your application.
Insist on a detailed, function-specific offer letter
CBP officers adjudicate TN petitions on the spot for Canadians. Your offer letter must spell out that the role requires and uses a bachelor's degree and describe advisory duties, not just placement quotas or business development activity, to survive scrutiny at the border.
Verify employer E-Verify enrollment before signing
Confirm the hiring firm is enrolled in E-Verify before you accept an offer. Non-enrolled employers can't legally onboard TN workers in some states, and discovering this after signing wastes weeks and may require restarting negotiations with a different firm.
Search for sponsoring employers using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Executive Search and recruiting roles at employers with recent visa filings and experience sponsoring work visas. This surfaces firms already comfortable with sponsorship processes instead of requiring you to educate every recruiter you contact.
Plan Mexican consular appointments around vacancy cycles
Mexican professionals processing through a U.S. consulate face appointment wait times that vary significantly by post. Prepare your DS-160 and gather your supporting documentation—including your employer's support letter and proof of your professional qualifications—early so your consular appointment doesn't land after your intended start date has passed.

Find Executive Search JobsExecutive Search TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Executive Search qualify as a TN visa occupation?
Executive Search doesn't appear by name in the USMCA's TN occupation list, but it can qualify under the Management Consultant category. The role must involve organizational analysis and advisory work at a senior level, and your offer letter must demonstrate that a relevant bachelor's degree is a genuine requirement for performing those duties.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Executive Search professionals?
TN is far more practical for Executive Search. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and Canadians can receive TN status at the port of entry the same day they travel. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a randomized lottery, and significantly more paperwork. The trade-off is that TN requires maintained nonimmigrant intent.
What documentation does my sponsoring employer need to provide?
Your employer must provide a detailed offer letter that confirms the position title, describes management consulting duties specific to talent identification, states that a bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, and specifies your anticipated start date and duration. Canadian applicants present this at a port of entry; Mexican applicants submit their application at a U.S. consulate along with the employer's support letter.
Where can I find Executive Search employers that sponsor TN visas?
Migrate Mate lets you search Executive Search and recruiting roles specifically at employers with recent visa filings, so you can focus your outreach on firms already experienced with work visa sponsorship. Cold-applying to firms with no immigration filing history often means spending your first interviews explaining the TN process rather than your qualifications.
Can I switch Executive Search employers while on TN status?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You'll need a new TN for the new employer before your start date. Canadians can obtain this at the port of entry; Mexican professionals must schedule a new consular appointment. There's no grace period built into TN status for employer changes, so timing the transition carefully is essential.
