Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Technical Solutions Consultant
Match your degree to the SOC code
TN approval for Technical Solutions Consultant roles hinges on a direct tie between your degree field and the Computer Systems Analyst classification. A business degree with a minor in IT often gets challenged at the port of entry, so gather transcripts that show technical coursework upfront.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Companies with recent visa filings for systems analyst or consultant roles are already experienced with visa sponsorship processes. Prioritize these employers in your outreach because they have demonstrated familiarity with supporting work visas and understand the documentation requirements—like preparing support letters and navigating port-of-entry or consulate procedures—before making an offer.
Get your offer letter language right
CBP adjudicates TN petitions at the border based almost entirely on the employer's offer letter. The letter must specify your role as a Computer Systems Analyst, your qualifying degree, and that the position requires theoretical and practical application of specialized knowledge, not just general business consulting.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify Technical Solutions Consultant roles with employers who have recent visa filings and sponsorship experience. This cuts out the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that may not be equipped to handle the TN visa process.
Prepare for Mexican citizen cap constraints early
Mexican nationals face an annual TN allocation cap, so timing your job search and offer acceptance to avoid peak filing periods reduces the risk of hitting the limit. File your TN petition with USCIS as soon as your offer letter is finalized, rather than waiting until your start date.
Document consulting project scope in advance
If your role involves client-facing solution design rather than internal IT work, CBP may probe whether the position meets specialty occupation standards. Prepare a one-page summary of typical project deliverables, technical methodologies used, and degree-level knowledge required before your port of entry interview.

Find Technical Solutions Consultant JobsTechnical Solutions Consultant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Solutions Consultant role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, Technical Solutions Consultant positions typically qualify under the Computer Systems Analyst category in the USMCA TN occupations list. The key requirement is that the role involves applying theoretical and practical knowledge of computer systems to analyze and solve business or technical problems. Your job offer letter must make this connection explicit, and your degree must be in a relevant field such as computer science, information systems, or engineering.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Technical Solutions Consultant jobs?
TN is significantly more accessible for this role. There is no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and processing at a Canadian port of entry can be same-day. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a lottery selection, and a wait until October 1 to begin work. For Canadian professionals, TN is almost always the faster and more reliable path to a Technical Solutions Consultant position in the U.S.
Can I search for Technical Solutions Consultant jobs with TN sponsorship on Migrate Mate?
Yes. Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface TN-eligible roles with employers who have a history of sponsoring international professionals. Searching on Migrate Mate lets you filter for Technical Solutions Consultant positions where the employer already understands the TN process, so you can focus your effort on opportunities that are likely to move forward rather than stalling at the sponsorship conversation.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN petition?
Your employer must provide a detailed offer letter on company letterhead that specifies your title, confirms the position qualifies as a Computer Systems Analyst under USMCA, lists your required degree and field of study, states your salary and work location, and confirms the temporary nature of the engagement. For USCIS-filed petitions, the employer also completes and signs Form I-129. Canadian citizens handling the petition at the border do not require USCIS involvement.
What happens if my degree is in a field adjacent to computer science rather than directly in it?
CBP officers have discretion in evaluating credential fit. A degree in mathematics, electrical engineering, or information technology generally supports a Technical Solutions Consultant TN petition, but a degree in business administration or management information systems with limited technical coursework can draw additional scrutiny. In these cases, attach an unofficial transcript to your port of entry package to show the technical depth of your studies, and have your employer's letter emphasize the degree-level knowledge required for the role.
